PSU probably dead, need help to verfy

Apocalipse

Hello everyone, i think my PSU is dead, or at least on its way to die.

Straight to troubleshooting, i disconnected all plugs CPU GPU 12pin atx etc, and used the paper clip,

and it starts, but i don't leave it for long because i can smell the circuit burning within the PSU.

IF i connect everything beside the GPU and use the paper clip i does the same thing,

if i connect the GPU and start everything lights up and the fans spin for a brief second, and then it shuts down.

The PSU is a Cooler master 750w GX PSU, and is old around 4 years, thank god its still within warranty.

On another note i have been using it without problems over those 4 years.

Yea, and i was just making a PC for a friend, and at the same time looking for a new PSU,

God seems to be giving me a sign.

Anything making a burning smell i'd throw out of the PC ASAP. not only can it kill your components but it's potentially a fire hazard. so yes even if it still works i'd be getting a new one.

Don't bother trying to revive it, you might fry your hardware.

How old was it ?

Around 4 years, already going to the shop to exercise the warranty

yeah it sounds like a dead PSU. I don't recommend plugging it in anymore, as it can damage components if you get insanely unlucky (speaking from experience)

Damn, how long is the warranty on cooler master PSU's? Props to them for that.

Yeah it sounds like your psu will die soon. Just go and change it if you have warranty.

Not sure if you're going to send it in for RMA, or just buy a new unit altogether. If you buy a unit altogether, maybe you could take it apart and display the PCB somewhere.
