That's pirating because it's expected that you would watch the ads with the show. Which is a guaranteed revenue stream for the show.

You aren't expected to buy the microtransactions. They aren't a guaranteed revenue stream. It's not the same thing.

That's not the way Microsoft sees it. Legally they can claim it's lost revenue even if it isn't. Which i know is bs but my concern is LTT getting threatened with legal action as the OP is basically a tutorial on how to break their terms of use.

How is it lost revenue .... when the game is only available in and to Russia? 

If you get a key and download the official game, without a VPN, they will not let you play because you are not in Russia.

This is a NA-EU centric forum. I've yet to see a Russian person here. It can't be lost revenue if we aren't the target audience and the game is not available to us. 

I think that's a major reason the developers are doing their thing.

Its probably a really good thing MCC hasn't come to PC yet. Its still a buggy mess on xbone.

It's really got nothing to do with what you'd think is rational, they can do whatever they want with their own IP. It is just that, their own IP. They are not giving creative license to whom ever wants to play it and they don't want people outside of Russia playing it. You cannot argue that it isn't pirating when it is, it is a breach of their terms of use and it is using their IP without their permission. It does not matter whether or not you think it isn't pirating or if I think it's OK or not OK. It IS pirating, Microsoft own Halo Online and they decided they did not want people outside of Russia to play the game let alone take the micro transactions out which is the only source of revenue for the bloody thing. 

 

I do not support geoblocking or micro transactions, I am just telling you the LAW and how it IS. It really doesn't matter whether or not you think it isn't lost revenue, even if you're right it doesn't matter because that isn't what the law says. I don't see a clause in copyright law that says "If this random person named Vitalius thinks it's OK then we should let them do it".

The guys at LTT probably don't care because while Microsoft don't want this to happen (and yes what he's saying is true though only in places that will stand behind what MS says as far as legal issues.... so basically US/EU) but they aren't going to target small fries like us. They're gonna go to the source and shut that down. The thing is, the Halo community is full of crazy people that hear about and find all the tiniest of little details and that goes up on the numerous news sites (one of them being HBO (Halo.Bungie.Org) but I dunno how much that site has stayed up there, i'm sure it has) and then EVERYONE know's about it. So it really was only a matter of time before something like this happened. If they stop the main guys in charge of this there will only be more to take their place.

 

I assume the mods and admins of LTT know this, and this thread is relatively harmless. Yea sure there's the details of how to in the main post, but since that information is extremely easy to Google... yea...

I suppose I meant that I haven't seen someone who lives in Russia here. You are in Germany. You can't play official Halo Online either. :P

Why don't they release it global for like $15 or something. They know there is a lot of Halo players and most have a PC too

I've been following this since the beginning and it's absolutely amazing how far this has come.

 

I've been needing a Halo fix on PC for a while and until Microsoft brings updated Halo to PC then this will fill that void.
