Take a look at the Canon Rebel T3i, I assume someone will rush in here and correct me, but for the price you could get a few accessories to go with it if ya want, and it's a fairly good DSLR with support for different lenses (don't wanna give specifics because I am still figuring this out myself), external flash, 1080p30FPs or 720p60FPS (that bothers me), and up to 128GB of highspeed SDcards you can shoot for days.

Hey I see you posting on the camera threads quite often so I trust you lol. I'm looking at getting in to night sky time lapse so I was wondering if you have any wide angle lenses that you would recommend on a budget. I haven't picked up a camera yet but I'll be asking for advice on that closer to the purchase date I'll most likely go for a cheapish Canon so I'll have more lens options. I know you have Nikon gear but any advice would be much appreciated. I figured I'd look in to lenses ahead of time because I can keep an eye out for any second hand deals and such.

Actually I use Sony :D I would still get Nikon on a budget, like a D3200 or something if you want

Lenses are definitely something to consider

how wide do you want?, for wide maybe look for a 10mm

I think a 14 mm and or 24 mm seems to be the standard for astrophotography. Idon't know if that's going to send the price through the roof though.

Maybe on a full frame camera, on an APSC camera its x1.5 for nikon and x1.5 for canon

So if you are buying a 24mm, it will be a 36mm on a crop body

Oh so Stick to 10 mm then. What's the difference between a full frame camera and a normal one just a larger sensor?

"just a larger sensor" ... technically yes, but a larger sensor brings many things with it, but its out of your budget unless you are getting something old and used

ha yeah you know what i mean though larger sensor larger frame more light better in general. I don't really know a great deal about cameras but Ilove astrophotography and as luck has it I live 20 mins away from one of Scotland only dark zones.

Yeah basically :D more light, shallower depth of field, wider field of view etc

ah thats awesome :D definitely should do some sky time lapses too :P

I'm all over the place! For right now I am doing it for fun but I kind of want to later in life. I have a D3200 18-55 lens and a 55-200 lens. And I am a VERY big noob at this right now.

Honestly, you'll get pretty much exactly the same performance with your D3200 than with any crop-frame dslr - don't waste your money on a new body. Also both those two lenses you have are great lenses. You have a great kit so far. I'm telling you you'll get zero benefit by moving "up" to any crop-frame dslr so don't do it. What you should do is do a meta search of all your highest rated (self-rated) photos and see what focal length you use, as well as if it was shot outdoors or indoors. What you can do to improve your photography is A) if you don't already own buy and read a few photography classics - yes even in the digital era, right lighting and expression of what it is you're trying to achieve never changes B) if you find yourself using the on-board flash for anything other than outdoor fill flash - get an external flash. You don't have to spend a lot of money. As a matter of fact don't spend lots of money. The biggest positive you can ever do in indoor photography is get an external flash that you can bounce off the ceiling - the cheapest SB400 will do wonders. C)Save yourself the money and DON'T buy any other crop-frame body nor lenses unless you have a very specific purpose - such as needing to take indoor non-flash photography - go with something like a 35mm f1.8

BTW - I shot my avatar with a rented $30k Hasselblad, my own D800E and an iphone - guess what in sRGB color output and online use or print size less than 10 inches you can hardly tell the difference between them. Prints over 20 inches and a larger color space shows big differences. Lighting and setup are key.

There was a slight mistake there, fixed that for you. Not that it would matter the focal length much, though...

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.
