New build fan config?

Sol21

Hey there guys, been watching some videos from Linus and reading some answers on this and other forums on push pull.

I currently have a fractal R5, and an asus z97 along with 2 G.SKILL Ripjaws X series ram.

In one of Linus' build videos he used BeQuiet air cooler, having it pull the air through to the back of the exhaust/rear of the case (So the air cooling fan was right beside rear case fan).

I was curious if this is how I should set my build as well?

Or, on the forums here and tomshardware, people suggest having it near the ram, and pushing air to the back of the case so it can dissipate the rams heatsink?

I don't think I'll be getting any extra fans at this time.

I plan to overclock my i5 4690k as well as my GTX 970 (MSI)

Because of the filter at the bottom of the case, I guess it's best to have the PSU fan facing down as well right?

Thanks guys.

I would have the fan on the heat sink facing the front of the case blowing air through the heat sink towards the exhaust fan. This will keep temps inside your case down as it would be exhausted pretty much right after it is blown through the heat sink.

MainRig- CPU: 4790k, RAM: 32gb 2400mhz, MOBO: Maximus Formula VII, COOLING: Full EK cooling, GPU: Titan X SLI, PSU: 1200w evga , STORAGE: 250gb SSD, 4TB hybrid CASE: 760T, EXTRAS: Sleeved cables

SecondRig- CPU:4690K, RAM: 16gb 1600mhz, MOBO: Maximus Gene VII, COOLING: H105, GPU: 970ftw, PSU: EVG650W,  STORAGE: 250gb SSD, 3TB, CASE: 540air

Steam: pizzatime6 Plus two other pc rigs and a craptop.

Thank!

Others got any opinions on this?

Have it exhaust at the rear, but do add a second front fan. The R5 really needs overly positive pressure due to the huge hole around the 5.25" bays where unfiltered air can enter.

If you do not want to invest in a second front fan, take the 140mm Fractal fan out of the rear and put it in the front. The CPU cooler will blow enough air out of the case even without that rear fan.

So have the cooler pulling air? Make it face the back of the case am I correct?

Recommendations for case fans? I hear Noctuas are great.

Make it blow towards the rear. Cold air comes in on the front, the CPU cooler blows slightly warmer air out the back.

As for case fans, the default ones are quiet and have enough static pressure for dealing with the hard drive cages directly behind them. So there's no real need to upgrade. Besides, I thought you wrote in the first post that you weren't going to get new fans just yet.

Thanks, yeah I was thinking about not getting another fan but if it can help, I might as well :)

I was thinking of just removing all the drive cages and leave just one at the bottom for the HDD, think that be necessary to help with air flow?

My drive cages are full, so I had to leave them in place.  Removing one will help a lot.
