GTX 970 upgrade?

Will it be a good idea to upgrade to a GTX 970 now? I already have the money to buy one but i'm unsure if the prices would drop soon. Any thoughts? TIA.

Wgat are the rest of your specs?

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

System specs?

I just got one, lovin it.

Only in games that are unoptimized pieces of shit will it have issues, but thats for ANY gpu as well.

Not had a single issue of Vram stutter (Playing at both 1080p and 1440p)

I also have 20 odd games installed at the moment.. some AAA, some not,. still a great card, no issues (unless game causes them, cos Im one who will lower settings for higher frames if there is an issue,..but not needed yet)

Even using DSR 4K for some titles that are lighterweight titles, no Vram issues.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

fx-6300 @ 4.0ghz, 8gb ram @1866mhz, Sapphire HD 7790 1gb

Been playing Witcher 3 for a while now. Super pissed with the unnecessary stutters especially in city environments. To be fair, my pc is 3 years old lol

I don't think my fx-6300 will bottleneck a GTX 970? or would it?

It would definitely bottleneck it. The FX 6300 is out performed by i3s and the i3 might have a small bottleneck with the 970 but not near as much with your current CPU.

Hmm i was planning to change to intel this year. Planning to get an i5. I saw a deal for a i5-3570k + ecs h77 for roughly converted to 170 usd here. Or i could get an i5-4460 paired with a more decent mobo. Thoughts?

Funny, i'm asking about processors in a gpu subforum lol

I mean if you are upgrading to that soon then I say grab the 970 now. If you want to OC (with that mobo idk how much you will get) then the 3570k is a good choice otherwise the i5 4460 and then you can upgrade straight to 4690k or 4790k but would probably want to get a z97 mobo for better support/OCs.

Yeah that might be the best way to go. Well do you think the GTX 970 would have a price drop within the month? That's the only thing holding me back. Thanks btw

GPU prices always fluctuate but I don't see any reason for a substantial drop on it. I'd wait a few days monitoring the prices of them and then make the choice.

From my understanding, Nvidia doesn't really drop the price on their GPUs. 780s are still going to close to $500 even though a 970 for $350 will outperform it.

Now that there is the 980Ti, see if you can get a used 970 for the $250 mark. OR get a used 980 for the $400 mark
