Problems with asking for likes for another video

Hey Linus, doesn't that like-baiting thing that's going on here completely screw up your YouTube Analytics? For example, X video comes out and a lot of people really like it so they leave some extra likes, but you tell them to like the video for another video that is interesting video Y so you think that those extra likes are for video Y. You already know that Y will be interesting to the viewers, but you don't know that X is, and you never will, because you think all the likes are for Y. Also, I feel like that extra time that you take is quite annoying to many viewers as well as what you actually say. I hope, to you, in a situation such as this where more than a couple people say something, that you can stop doing this, and do what's best for your viewers and not what's best for yourself, because currently, you are losing me and some other people, and if you continue, we might be lost.

Really, it is not about that.

Spometimes they have that video that they will make if they get enough likes, already uploaded to Vessel by the time they ask on YouTube.

It's just a different way of saying "like the video if you liked it"

LOL there asking for the likes but the video is going to come up either way, its just something Linus has started saying

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Isn't it just for SEO anyway? I'm not really bothered by it, I rarely like videos as I only like videos that I want to come back to.

It is a way to drive viewer engagement. The video will come either way and often by the time it is on YouTube it is out on Vessel already. Viewer engagement is huge for having more people find your videos. He is making a business decision a odd as that sounds when he is saying that.

I still don't see how likes help a Youtuber besides the obvious. If you have a lot of likes on your video people will think it's a good quality video and probably watch it. But most people only go on content and if it has more dislikes then likes then they won't watch it but LTT is fine. Subs and views are the way to get money so I don't know why they need more.

I still feel like it's cheatsy. Also, that is how you are supposed to use likes, to see if people liked the video in analytics, and to get on more "what to watch" sort of things. I personally think he should just stick to the old method because I feel like I can't trust them, especially when the Taiwan video went up earlier than yesterday's video, and Luke said Linus was "unsure" about posting it, so that we should "like this video" so we can see the Taiwan video. It just really bugs me, I don't mind "like if you liked it" but this is just annoying.

what u are saying is, on video X linus told the viewers to like the video X if they want to see the video Y "or something related to video Y", now lets say video X got 100 likes, your point is how does linus how many of those 100 likes are given just because ppl liked video X in itself and how many from those 100 were caused by Y.

 

the thing is many people like the content of the video but wouldn't press the like button all the time "mostly laziness/ not aware if the likes even does any good to the content creator", now if linus want to know if his video is good or bad, he will check the dislikes and the comments because chances are if u disliked a video u are more likely to express that by a dislike or a comment.

note: same thing happen with product reviews, you always hear about the negative more than the positive when u search around the net, because people expect the product to be good in the first place and will complain once it have some negatives.

A video with more likes is more likely to show up higher in search results.

Usually Youtube brings it to the top with key words you put in as tags and the most relevant so posted most recently with the most views. I guess your right with the news viewers but they have gone from 1 million subs to almost 2 very fast (for a tech channel). Others that have similar views only have 500,000 or 300,000 subs like TechofTomorrow of JayzTwoCents

Usually Youtube brings it to the top with key words you put in as tags and the most relevant so posted most recently with the most views. I guess your right with the news viewers but they have gone from 1 million subs to almost 2 very fast (for a tech channel). Others that have similar views only have 500,000 or 300,000 subs like TechofTomorrow of JayzTwoCents

It's a combination of factors, no one could tell you the exact algorithm, but if someone is searching for "GTX 980ti" they get Linus' video which is the most liked by a long way, could be partially coincidence but it's very likely a contributing factor.

And yes subscriber rate is growing insanely, so they must be doing something very right, so it would make sense for them to keep doing what they're doing and refining it to keep that growing, and then converting those subscribers to actual viewers. A good way to do that is to recommend another video to watch, since it's obvious that 2million subscribers aren't watching every video, so when someone does watch a video, it would be prudent to remind them that there are videos coming soon or videos that have recently dropped that the viewer might also be interested in. And if the viewer like a video about what they want to see upcoming, they are more likely to remember what's upcoming and check back for it. All of this is crucial for getting every last view (dollar) possible and if it alienates some hardcores, so be it.

Linus is playing a smart game, and he isn't too emotionally invested in his viewer base - he puts his employees, family and business first, as he should. He obviously makes logical rather than emotional decisions and goes for mass appeal (where the money is) while still emotionally (and financially) investing enough into the community to ensure loyalty and compassion and keeping the company both aware of its roots but constantly moving forward. And for the warm fuzzy feeling of hundreds of thousands of people saying they love him and his hairy sidekick.

Even if the video gets more dislikes than likes they're still going to post the video because it's Linus. (And any video they tease they've already made and are ready to post it with a few keyboard strokes.)

 

Also, this forum is not a forum for hate. This is a forum for love and compassion. All tech enthusiasts coming together in a judgement-free-zone where we don't hate on Linus for trying to raise money to buy is 16th Lambo. (Insert rainbow)

 

Also, is it just me or does it feel weird when Linus does the "drop a like" or "click the annotation" or "click the I in the top right corner" on vessel when they're meant to be youtube features. I nkow they're just early ports of the future youtube videos, but it just..... feels...... weird......
