Windows 10 will be "rolling out in waves", not everyone will get it on launch date

Bouzoo

Tbh I wasn't expecting that. They say they are playing it safely and I actually believe them. What's few more days after months and months of waiting. If you're now an Insider, don't worry, you'll be getting it first.

Starting on July 29, we will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders. From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.

If your system is not ready yet for your upgrade to Windows 10, we will provide more details during the upgrade experience. In some cases, we will include contact information so you can follow up directly with an application provider or device manufacturer to learn more. For most upgrade incompatibilities, you may still choose to complete the upgrade, and find alternative compatible solutions in the Windows Store after you upgrade.

If you have this notification, you're good to go.

Also when buying from a retailer, look for this sticker so you can be sure it was properly tested.

Are you okay with this or are angry you'll have to wait more? If few more days waiting or a week means that it'll be 100% ready and functional, I say bring it on.

With all Win 10 topics I wouldn't be surprised if this was a repost.

Maybe. I have on both my PCs "Install when you receive a notification after 29 July".

Are you on Insider?

Nope. Windows 7; although i am signed up on the Insider Programme. Maybe if i just download Windows 10 technical preview a few days before... They've been so confusing with the free upgrade it's insane.

Wait, are they rolling it out to people with an Insider account or to the preview installs?

Because I am an Insider but I only run Win10 in VM's for security and stabilities sake.

I think they are going to put everyone on insider on RTM and continue the fast and slow rings for testing and such before pushing those updates to the general public.

It's going out in waves so in case the first wave starts having a bunch of issues they can stop the next wave and fix all the bugs. Hopefully everything goes well, if not then I feel bad for the people in the first wave.

Also so that their servers do not catch fire with millions of people trying to grab 3.8GB of OS files.

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

After you reserve, you just wait. There is nothing else you can do with it besides cancel it.

You can always just do it again. Worst that happens is that you don't get it the first week it is out.

75% of the desktops use windows 7 - 8.1. so if that is a 4 GB download for 1 billion PCs, that makes it 4000 Peta Bytes of data that needs to be sent from microsofts servers to users, IF everyone upgrades.

you might want to check that stat. the most widely used OS is windows xp. The most widely reported OS is in the range of windows 7-8.1.

Windows xp didn't have modern anti piracy measures (actually I think I've got an install cd lying around somewhere still) and was pirated like crazy when the internet era hit. It only stopped being supported at the start of last year.

This is fine. I don't plan on getting Windows 10 the day it comes out because there's guaranteed to be bugs that need to be worked out. Considering that we have up to a year from release to upgrade, I'll probably wait about 6 months before even attempting it. By then I'd hope even the most obscure of drivers would have been patched for compatibility. Generally, you never want to be the first to do anything.

Yeah, there's really no harm in waiting. I recently sold my Windows 8.1 desktop PC and I want to buy Dell's awesome new XPS 13 2015 edition laptop but I am waiting for Windows 10 launch to see what OEMs have in terms of new hardware to go alongside the launch of Windows 10. If nothing excites me I'll just buy the XPS 13 2015 with Windows 10 preinstalled in August (The signature edition from Microsoft Store because no junk/bloatware). In the mean time my work laptop is doubling as my personal laptop.

You aren't supposed to get it now, but on the July 29. If you meant the picture, I think that's also for July 29, that was probably MS just giving us a picture. I don't think anything says directly you have to have a Win 10 preview, but I wouldn't be surprised if you did. I mean, probably most Insiders are running Win 10.

I agree to the fullest. If I can choose between day 1 ver with few bugs and day 10 bugless version I'd rather wait (bugless as it can get), and I think most people will. Also as you mentioned server load, would rather dl it in 1 hour at full speed than dl-ing it for 6 hours at 1/6 of speed.
