My current pc specs are?

FX 6100 [stock]

Strix GTX 960

MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard

 

The max amd processor compatible with my motherboard is fx 8370.

I will be playing games at 4320*2560

If your playing at that resolution you'll be fine, if you were using a lower resolution, you'd get totally different advice!

Wish you came here before you bought that system... I know this could have been impossible..

 

As long as your pushing super high details your fine.. when using 1080p and such, the epic FPS is limited by your CPU.

But as your using such a high res, and will be GPU bound,.. it's actually okay for YOUR situation.

The architecture behind the FX CPUs cannot keep up with high end graphics cards that require strong cores to consistently feed the card.

Monitor your GPU load in your games and you will quickly see that your GPU is not running at 90%+ if you own a high end graphics card paired with an FX processor.

 

Use an FX with a mid range GPU all you want, that is fine and you won't limit the card's potential and makes for a much more balanced rig. If you get into the upper echelon of GPUs, that is when you are holding your card back by the FX.  This also doesn't bode well for the future because as GPUs get more powerful, the FX will simply not be able to keep up with even mid-range GPUs.  As of now, the highest end GPU I would pair with an FX that won't limit its potential is an R9 280/GTX770.

 

There are very few games that are very well multithreaded, and even in those games, such as CoD:AW, an i3 is still beating out an FX9.  The reason behind this is because games typically have one main thread, Core #0.  When this main thread is being choked by poor single core performance, the rest of the threads struggle.  So even in these really well multithreaded PC port games, we are still seeing Intel processors beating out FXs because their poor IPC simply can't give as good as results on that main thread.

 

Going from an FX6 to FX8 to FX9 doesn't yield much performance gains because they all use the same architecture, which has horrible single core performance.  If you tried to go from FX8 to FX9, you're going to have to spend even more on super high end 990FX motherboard, and at least a $60 CPU Cooler.  Just throwing money at a bottomless pit of poor gaming performance.  Basically, you're stuck with what you have if you decide to go FX.

 

 

If you can sell that FX machine, and recoup some money and buy an Intel i5 rig (See link for proof why) then your FURY-X's in crossfire will have zero issues. with GPU usage.

Yes

Even if your pushing a super high res, you'll see it less,.. but other games may not play so nicely with the CPU and give off severely lower FPS than you expect, regardless of what GPU you have.

 

Reading that huge post IN that link, will provide info on bottlenecking.

 

/You CAN sell your CPU/Mobo and start again with Intel, and have way more performance (A hassle, but a worthy hassle)

With DX12 I think the fx 8370 will have better multicore performance.

Keep in mind.. its not all peachy from day 1 (Wish it was already out)

Not all games will utilise DirectX 12 right away since it will depend on how early in the game's development it was implemented.

None (or maybe a single digit count) of the 'older' games before DX12 would be converted to DX12 either...

 

And keep in mind in terms of CPU performance the main thing DirectX 12 is doing is making draw calls multi-threaded. This will certainly help the FX CPUs, but these are not the only thing that bog down CPU performance. Many other types of calculations cannot be multi-threaded such as AI or physics. Will depend on the specific engine/game.

 

I really hope it is what it is, and a saving grace for FX.

Since Y'all people are suggesting to get a high performance cpu something like an i5, Then I would rather go for an skylake cpu's.

 

Now if I want to spend top dollars it will be good If I get the rumoured 6 core i7 skylake than quad.

Haswell i5 will do it just fine? and newer stuff is more expensive and unnecessary.

Just make sure you get a decent motherboard with 16x/16x or 8x8x PCIE slots available, do not get a 16x/4x EVER.

ahhh i see...aiming for 60FPS at 4K+ gaming huh...yeah you'll be fine...except for the games in which an overclocked FX can't achieve 60FPS gaming...but that's another story i guess.

 

But i wouldnt go with the FX-8370...get an FX-8320 or FX-8320E which ever is cheaper or even better find a used chip...those are all the same performance anyways, they varie only slightly in clockspeed...so yeah, get the 8320 and overclock it yourself i was able to get 4.6ghz out of mine...still slow for the most part, but not too bad...good luck.

 

If you don't want the hassle of overclocking, cooling...extra heat...(this thing would be a space heater with an overclocked FX chip and dual Fury X in the same system...OUCH...) just sell your FX as a kit with the board and order an i5 and a Z97 board...much better performance overall.

FX-8370 uses less power than FX-8320/50 so its a good pick! I got same mobo but have yet to OC... :P

it does not, it's the same shit...it does consume a tiny bit less energy factory settings vs factory settings with an FX-8320...but you can undervolt an FX-8320 and make it as ''efficient'' and even more than an FX-8370...they are all the same, only the factory settings the cpu run's at by default differ...you can tweak all those settings all you want within the UEFI anyways so the it's REALLY not worth it to spend extra $ for anything higher than the FX-8320...and overclocking on these will make so little difference in performance anyways the core having abysmal IPC the performance increase is IMHO not even worth the extra heat and power consumption for overclocking those...let alone buying a premium motherboard, beefy power supply, premium after market CPU cooling solution and case fans...all that for 2 or 3FPS gains in games or whatever...it's ridiculous.
