Overclocking CPU,What reduces it's life span?

First of all my CPU is a Intel Core i5 4690k 3.5GHz. I'm running it at 4.4GHz with 1.272v of Core Voltage..(Max temp- 77 degree Celsius)

Which of these result in reduced CPU life-:

A) Increasing voltage, I'm not talking about going past 1.3volts? (voltage adjustment set to ADAPTIVE,After doing stress test on OVERRIDE)

B) Increasing CPU clock with voltage below 1.3volts?

 

One time I saw Intel Turbo Boost running 1.28volts on core for 3.9GHz so I thought 1.272 will be pretty safe.

I have no thorough knowledge on these to be honest, if you guys can guide me on this would be awesome..

Please mention a METHODOLOGY for overclocking this CPU... My mother board is a MSI Z97 Gaming 5 ...

Voltage increases detract the overall life. How much, no1 can say.

Core clock increases at the same voltage, Im not 100%, but hazard a guess,.. its less life threatening, but moreso than stock clocked.

 

There are many youtube/web guides, and ALWAYS ALWAYS watch/read more than one source of information.. ALWAYS.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Running too high voltage and heats above 85 degrees over very long periods of time.

No one can really say, but running the cpu out of spec, in regards to voltages (or clock speeds, to a lesser extent) will likely reduce its lifetime.

 

High temps will also have a detrimental effect on the chip

You put more voltage through a CPU, it's lifespan will decrease. No matter what.

How much by? Hard to say. It's usually worth the performance increase, but be reasonable with an overclock. Don't be silly and put 1.5V through an i5. Its a common sense thing.

There's no formula to decide how long a CPU will last. Theoretically any voltage increase has to be assumed to reduce it's lifespan, but as long as they aren't defective or terribly abused CPUs can last so long that it's hard to figure out what that actually means. If it "only" lives for 8 years instead of 10, does it matter? You will probably want to have an upgrade within 3–4 years anyway, and in my opinion there's no reason to think it won't last that long.

 

Generally the things that are most likely to harm a CPU are excessive voltage (I'd say over 1.3 V), and excessive heat over 80°C or so. Damage seems to accumulate when they're run like that over long periods of time, it usually doesn't happen suddenly.

well, higher voltage will degrade the transistors in a cpu faster. even going a bit higher than stock will degrade the cpu faster than at stock, but the difference isn't going to be huge. temps also degrade the cpu faster. its hard to say just how much voltage and temps affect the degradation of a cpu, and how long it will take to adversely impact stability and performance. If I were you i wouldn't push your cpu any higher though unless you're planning on upgrading in a couple years. if you want your cpu to last longer then i'd keep it as is or back it off a bit.
