X99 Mobo Guidance - ASUS Rampage V Extreme, Deluxe or Pro?

Hello,

As the title says I'm looking to make a decision between these three boards, all are equally amazing to me when it comes to looks and been thinking about changing my Black and Red theme into Black and White with Deluxe and new DDR4 memories and all but I'm confused if I should put in extra bucks for Rampage V Extreme at all or not.

Let me make first thing clear, the reason I'm comparing these boards are because I've already got ROG Custom Build and I like my Black and Red theme but wanted to compare some of the stuff such as the built-in sound in these boards and other features including such as if the BIOS will roll out just as fast for other ones as for Extreme since it's their top of the line? I do believe it will I guess but I read it somewhere that it might won't be the same case with other boards.

Also would definitely like to know the difference between these boards and their U3.1 variants (the USB 3.1 bundle ones) which costs quite a bit more than their non U3.1 versions. What's the main difference? Is it only that they bundle the card in there or there are some other features that I'm missing? I tried to compare it the best I can but can't find any difference between these U3.1 and non U3.1 versions, while I know the benefits of U3.1 I don't mind missing out on that by not paying $60+ CAD.

I'll be using these with DDR4 2800MHz or 3000MHz (2800MHz) is the least and I'm considering Ripjaws 4 in 32GB Kit along with 5820k and not sure if I will be wanting to over clock as I want stability more than just for gaming, the reason I picked 5820k is because of this thread if you're interested to look into it: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/396746-4790k-or-5820k-for-vm/

Anyways, like I said .. any help on this will be highly appreciated and if I'm missing something out please do let me know. I will be making a final decision on my motherboard by next week and start purchasing parts by then as well, so far the processor and RAM seems to be the perfect ones that I want but if there are any other alternatives that can benefit me more in gaming as well as virtualization mainly in VM then please do let me know.

Thank you.

While Pro and Deluxe are same in the looks, will I be missing much if I go with Pro? Considering it'll be with 5820k.

I don't know if you don't need the extra feature the deluxe have over the x99-a 3.1 go with that and don't worry your ram is fine

Well, having a pro takes about 69 inches off that e peen. But it's still a good board. The deluxe on the other hand is CRAMMED with features that will make it worth the cost, it is a fantastic board and would definitely get one if I had the money and CPU.

If you're not pushing your overclocking hard on water, then a deluxe is just fine (and cheaper) The rampage boards come with more options for monitoring (So you know what's about to blow up) The deluxe does away with this as it isn't intended for pushing your cpu quite as hard.

As far as I'm aware the early roll out for usb 3.1 was an add on card with a usb 3.1 plug.....your call if it is worth it to you, or just buy one later after the early adopter tax disappears.

Don't like the look of that board one bit. It's only either of these three out of all the X99 offering out there as the white shroud on Deluxe and Pro is sheer beauty and Rampage will go with rest of my theme.

Any specific features Deluxe got over Pro if you don't mind sharing? Not going to OC my CPU so consider that as well, only boost clock since no warranty void on that.

Since overclocking will void the warranty I doubt I'll be using anything besides the boost clock, hell I never even used boost clock even on my current 4790k. So Deluxe will be a better option than Pro? Any specific features it has over Pro if you don't mind me asking please?

So like I figured. It's just a damn add on card and that's it? Then I'm not interested as long as that's the only difference between these models.

If you don't want to overclock (I think you should) don't get the deluxe. The pro is all you need. Also, since you don't want to overclock I recommend some sort of Xeon.

I want it for gaming as well because I'm doing 4K gaming currently in G-Sync and don't want to lose all that and would rather have this than Xeon as I'll have faster cores on this than Xeon on this processor budget.

I would totally overclock if it didn't void the damn warranty, can't risk it since my work will be relied on this machine heavily.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

yup. x99 overclocks like a beast. seriously when was the last time we saw a chip where 95% of the chips would achieve a 50% overclock? If you can find a x99 xeon for cheaper then it might be an option though.

Only voids warranties if the chip breaks/overheats BECAUSE of the overclock. If it is faulty and breaks for no other reason you will be eligible for a warranty.

Ohh...really? So it's not like smartphone as soon as you root it the warranty is void?

So I can overclock 5820k safely without voiding the warranty as long as I don't break it because of it? Niceeeee.

What do you think I can reach safely in terms of Ghz if I overclock with any of these said boards? And since overclocking is now an option again for me, I guess you're back to suggesting Deluxe for me as I assume it'll be better for overclocking?

Also why aren't you towards Rampage instead of Deluxe? Any specific reason?

Thanks a lot for your input btw, much appreciated.

1. Nope.

2. Yup, but remember. DO IT PROPERLY.

3. Do a bit of research on the "silicon lottery", that should answer your question. Each chip overclocks differently, but most X99 chips overclock exceptionally well so expect nice thermals with nice speeds.

4. The e peen. also the rampage V is E-ATX (I think) making it incompatible with quite a lot of the nicer cases on the market.

I'm running 4.5 GHz on a 5960x with only 0.05V more. I'm not interested in pushing it further. Base clock was 3.0GHz. I'm running it with a H100i, and a pair of 2000rpm noctua industrials cooling it, at idle it's 2 degrees above ambient, under gaming load I don't even get to 80 degree's and I've never had the fans spin up past 600rpm unless I'm benchmarking.

EDIT: This isn't on one of the listed boards. I'm running a ASUS WS board. Not something that was intended for overclocking, but hey, they let me do it, so why not.

I'll be super duper careful as I also just saw Linus overclocking the same processor with even lower speed of RAM with the monster Rampage board.

I'll look more into silicone lottery when I get on PC and get back to you on that is any questions as well.

I got 800D and I'm keeping that unless I upgrade to 900D so I don't think I should have issues at all even with H100i in there right now.

So will I actually gain anything besides the OC Panel gimmick on Rampage if I decide to go that way instead of Deluxe?

Also I guess we can take Pro out of the question now and compare only Deluxe and Rampage since I'm ready To OC safely.

According to the rampage 5 Extreme over all the other boards.

It has better onboard audio, ROG OC panel.

The bios will have more feutures to fine tune a overclock.

Note that the Rampage 5 is a E-ATX form factor

Diffrence between the pro and deluxe is connectivity mainaly

Deluxe has a couple of usb ports more, and 2 sata express ports, but Sata express is kinda dead.

The rampage is mainly the monitoring IMO, all that extra functionality feeds directly into that OC panel bypassing software which tends to have a slight delay. I use corsair link for my monitoring, and have "issues" with it, and ASUS AI suite. (AI suite tried putting 1.5V through my cpu once at a just a little above stock speeds)

I got the exact same cooler with stock fans so maybe I should get Noctua too? How many you got is it in push and pull config? I'm just pushing it through the case out on the top.

So I should be able to reach 4.5Ghz or more safely just fine as well since my base clock is 3.3Ghz and Boost Clock is 3.6Ghz for 5820k. Right?

I like to keep my fans on medium speed so they're not so loud but can I set them to Quiet mode so will it have any issues when over clocked and browsing only and all?

Also do you keep it over clocked 24x7?

1. I don't recommend OCing RAM.

2. Keep the 800D, your e-peen is big enough with either one of those motherboards.

3. Not really. They are both amazing for OCing.

Looking at it from an aesthetic point of view I'd say the rampage as it will look nicer with your setup. red, black AND white don't tend to look that great when compared to just red and black.

Diffrence between the pro and deluxe is connectivity mainaly

Deluxe has a couple of usb ports more, and 2 sata express ports, but Sata express is kinda dead.

And the ginormous e-peen size difference.

I don't run mine overclocked 24/7, but I do run it at stock 24/7 (the beauty of WS components, when I say 24/7 I mean it) I only switch it up for AAA gaming, and benchmarking, There's very little on the market that will actually push a 5960x to it's limits at stock (GTAV,and witcher are both multi core optimised) Gaming load on overclock my fans don't ramp up, and honestly the standard ones were fine as long as you switched the fan profile to "silent" in corsair link. the difference between the stock sp-120's and the noctua industrials I use now is 1000rpm vs 600rpm. The industrials do push more air through the rad however even with the slower speed, real world they're probably worth 2 degrees, and quieter/slower fans.
