The Aspirational Lamp.. Get it and quit job

The Aspirational Lamp is an AI-controlled desk lamp that doesn't just use electricity, but can collect it, thanks to a built-in solar panel and battery pack. Created by Feild Craddock, Akshay Verma, and Michael-Owen Liston, it's designed to explore a speculative scenario in which our appliances have intelligence, goals, and—most importantly—the means to act on those goals. When the lamp isn't being used, it will soak up electricity, which it can then (theoretically) sell back to the power grid. With the money made from that, the Aspirational Lamp is then capable of investing automatically into the stock market, earning itself enough money over time to pay for upgrades and new parts for itself. You can cash your lamp out at any time, however, and if the lamp totally breaks, a check for the lamp's remaining funds would be automatically mailed to the owner.

How much does it cost? (Didn't see a price on the 2nd link, didn't care to open the first)

It's a nice idea, but they need to make some sort of 'proof of concept'. The thing about this video is just that, its a video, everything we just saw was fabricated for entertainment purposes. Now, rather than some sort of strange 'Lamp AI' you would be better off with a giant solar array on your roof and something like a raspberry pi running the stock trading program. In theory this system of computers earning money for you is possible, but I'm not sure anyone would be able to afford software that is essentially predicting the stock market. A copy of something like that would be worth millions, it could flip the stock market on its head over night. If everyone could access something like that, then whats preventing a stock market crash? History has shown that people with any power over stocks will abuse that power for profit, and that's what caused the great depression. There were other factors, but abusing a poorly designed system was at the heart of it. That and its important to remember that with the stock market there are winners and losers, every dollar you make is a dollar that someone else lost in a bad trade. Investing in the stock market purely for profit and not because you simply want to invest in a specific company is always a terrible idea. In the end you will always get burned because that's simply the nature of the game. There are way too many questions and that goofy lamp who won't stop staring out the window isn't providing any answers.

Now I wonder how that lamp would send its own stored power to the grid if the rest of your house is still drawing power.

I am pretty sure that you can't do both at the same time, and one lamp doesn't have enough to to supply your house, and then send some back over to the grid.

And if you have enough of them... Solar panels are probably cheaper, and let you use your own lights.

 

This lamp will break something, itself included in that something. If it even has a battery it will try to push that power back into the wall, aand something is going to start burning.

I don't get how this is innovative. You need the lamp to give light to your workstation in the first place which then requires said light to generate electricity... Not sure they thought this through. Even if the lamp collects energy through a window, it won't be enough at all to cover the cost of the panel and/or the inverter. It seems like people are trying to put solar panels on everything these days. Then they just label it "Environmentally Friendly!" and sell it for far more than you should pay for. Solar panels are great but not on everything.

Is there AI that can just make money from the stock market? That is what I'm most skeptical about. Because if that were the case you could just get the AI, plug in 20 bucks and wait for it to make you a fortune...just seems unlikely.

Most of the stock market are a bunch of robots trading with eachother ... So yeah ...

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...

you can sell power in most countries, but not through a wall socket and not with one lamp. Also surface area of that one lamp makes me believe it won't even get enough power to run itself.
