Bios Update?

Okay, so for a while i had been having issues on my new setup (X99 pro usb 3.1, an intel 5820k, 16gb of ram running at 2666mhz, and a 850w corsair psu). Anyways since then my ram has been spotty on detection (The d1 slot doesn't register no matter what config of sticks).

Then, upon installation of my Samsung EVO 250gb SSD (It would not get detected in the bios), and after looking through Asus's website, I found some bios drivers that I skipped over.

One happened to be for 16gb ddr4 support in bios....makes sense.

The other one was for ssds.

So anyway I download the drivers, and I found that they were in .cap form...?

Not sure what that means, but It won't let me open the files, as windows can't even find a way.

If anyone could guide me through this it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advanced!

Download the bios from ASUS's support website.  Unzip the file.  Copy the Bios.CAP file to a flash drive.  Boot into the bios and use the bios flash utility, point it to the file, and voila.

Those .cap files are bios files.

Grab a clean USB drive, drop the latest file on there, and then boot up to your BIOS.
From there, look for asus EZUpdate, and click that.
It will ask you to locate that .cap file; do so and click yes.
DO NOT POWER OFF THE MACHINE AT THIS TIME, and let it reboot on it's own (it shoud reboot once and then go to the bios again.)

And that's it, you're new BIOS has been flashed!

Okay, can I have both of the cap files at once?

You only need to do the latest one, as it will include the fixes from the previous version.

So go back to the asus website where you got the files from before and grab the one with the newest date.

I did everything you said, and when i selected the file and clicked yes to read the file, it said, "File selected is not proper BIOS."

Make sure you are downloading the bios for your specific motherboard, and make sure you put the unziped cap file on the usb.

Does the usb port matter? I have just been putting it in the usb flashback one

Normally the flashback one should be fine, but maybe try it in a USB 2.0 port if it doesn't work.

Hey it worked! I had a bit of trouble booting after the update, but once i made sure it was booting on my hdd, everything was good. So far it detects all 4 sticks of ram (Although I haven't set the xmp profile up yet) so that's good... and also If I have an ssd in my system that I JUST installed, in what way would I need to configure it for it to work properly?

Do I need to turn Intel Raid on for it to be detected?

You want to go here and make sure it's set to AHCI.

If it is already set to AHCI, try the SSD in another port, or another machine.

If it isn't set to AHCI, set it to AHCI and try to boot to your hard drive.

It will say unable to boot and go to the startup repair screen; where it will take a few minutes to fix some files and you will be able to boot off your hard drive again.

Your board probably has multiple SATA controllers.  If you plugged your SSD into the Marvell controller but the controller is disabled it won't detect the SSD.

i think you have 10 SATA ports on that board, 6 on one controller, 4 on the other.  They are usually a different colour
