Star Citizen and the Noob (Myself)

JMJenkins

So first of all, hi there huge community, I've been keeping my eye on Star Citizen since the Crowdfunding on Kickstarter and I must say, I love where the game has gone so far, cannot wait to see it in the future.

First and foremost, could someone please explain how ship purchasing works, from what I gathered (and most likely incorrect) is that you buy ships with real money and then use them in-game?

#Edit:

I highly doubt people would be happy that someone could buy their ship that they spent $400 on with in-game currency, so does this mean P2W ships or would there be some type of balancing.

Yes and no.

Right now, you can purchase ships with real money, which is the somewhat working technical alpha, most of the smaller ships are able to be flown in arena commander. Once the persistent universe hits (which is the MMO portion of the game), you will be able to earn money in game and buy ships.

Currently buying ships with real money is essentially helping fund the game.

At the moment the purchases are pledges, you do get a ship based on the value of the pledge but you should look at it more like supporting the development of the game at this point. The packages include the final game, and depending on the package, some level of alpha and/or beta access. All the ships will be available in-game for in-game credits when it comes out all you will need to do is buy the game, in fact after release the will remove the ability to buy ships with IRL money.

At the moment you can also rent ships with credits earned in the alpha, these are virtual ships (in game virtual... i.e. to be used in what is currently an in fiction flight simulator) so you can buy a starter package and earn credits to try out other ships without spending any more IRL money.

Okay, thanks all that replied and cleared up my misunderstanding of this.
