Get another computer, get windows installed on a USB Boot Drive. Stick it in. Then go into BIOS and select this bootable drive to boot from, wait for the the installer to finish. Enjoy!

Well you may run into a problem where your old laptop's CPU can only run x32 versions of windows and you wouldn't be able to install it / do anything really.

You have your point but any Core or i series chip and their comparable chipsets should be able to run Windows in 64bit.

However if that's not the case get the ISO of windows and use a utility "ISOtoUSB" to burn the ISO to the USB. Then use the USB to install windows on the laptop, and all you'll need at that point is the product code.

Well not all Core series CPU's can run 64bit versions of windows. Especially if it's an older laptop. Before doing anything I'd recommend looking at Intel's website and seeing if that CPU supports 64bit versions of windows.

Ohhhh, yeah you'll be fine then. Just boot into BIOS then use the utility to set the USB as the boot drive and wipe windows and any remaining files of the old HDD. Sorry about the confusion.

Oh I get what you are doing now! Just clear the hard drive (Get all of your files off it first, if you desire), format it, then put into your new desktop and follow the boot procedure!

Actually don't bother formatting, just plug it straight in the desktop after you kept your important files, it should format itself in the process of windows installation.

Hey there fellow captain :)

Here's a guide on how to create a bootable flash drive for Windows 7:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool
The installer is able to format a partition or your whole drive so you can install the OS on it. I'd back up everything from the partition/partitions that you'd like to put the OS on as it will be formatted. :)
