The FoldingCoin project aims to incentivize participation in Folding@Home by distributing 'FoldingCoins' to users in proportion to their FAH Points earned.  You create a wallet on their system and then embed your wallet address into your FAH username so they can poll the stats and pay out your share of the daily reward.  I tried it out yesterday and managed to bank about 450 FLDC overnight.

 

It's obviously early-days for the FLDC currency, and who knows if it will go anywhere, but I think the principles behind the project are admirable (repurposing the now-obsolete mining rigs of the world for good).

That's kinda dumb.  Why offer a reward if there's already millions(?) of machines folding for free? I somehow have the feeling that this won't have any positive impact on the global amount of points earned.

Like... really. Wow. Another dumb coin to flood the market. I bet that making an "Ultimate Distributed Computing Log" video would have a bigger impact on the Folding database than this.

What's the exchange rate?

Here is what I found:

"Coinmarketcap.com shows the current value of 1 FLDC as 0.00000072 BTC
So roughly 1,388,888 FLDC = 1 BTC.
Its not a very liquid asset though so large buy/sell orders would drastically change the price so it's hard to value."
 
So, 1.4 million = 260 USD

Curecoin is better imo. I earned 0.01 BTC in 3 days :) which is about 2$ which is fine for me since its for a good cause

but imagine if all the computers that are farming crypto-currencies, are now folding. That would be a big plus right ?

I can't see any reason why anyone would switch from mining to folding. Why would anyone? I wouldn't.

But mining crypto currency also gives you cryptocurrency? And if you mine cryptocurrency you can get any currency you want, not just the specific one that folding provides you with?

Fair enough, but when it is time to choose what currency to mine, choosing one that actually uses the computing power for good is a fact to consider for some people I am sure.
