good budget cpu?

hello, i am saving up for a new rig for the new Mass Effect game, and i was wondering what cpu should i get? i want to play most games at no less than 30 fps on 1080p at high to ultra settings with an msi r9 270 on stock cpu speeds. I was thinking an fx 6300 or an i3 4170 (or whatever i3 skylake cpu comes out). if either cpu or the gpu is not enough for this, what would be? and i do stress on enough

also, i do not want to overclock and i do not care about upgrades or upgrade paths or dead ends or 'could've had more performance's. honestly, recommend me some cheap apu if you know for a fact gets the job done. i just want to sit in front of the pc and blissfully play Mass Effect Andromeda on high to ultra settings at playable fps once it comes out. nothing more. anything more is just money i could've used on Mass Effect toys or hoodies.

to give u guys a better idea, Mass Effect Andromeda will most likely have similar requirements as dragon age inquisition

You wont really be able to play games at ultra/high settings with a 270 now a days.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

For 1080p high and good FPS (30 isn't nearly enough), I'd get at least 280/280x.

CPU: Ryzen 3 3600 | GPU: Gigabite GTX 1660 super | Motherboard: MSI Mortar MAX | RAM: G Skill Trident Z 3200 (2x8GB) | Case: Cooler Master Q300L | Storage: Samsung 970 EVO 250G + Samsung 860 Evo 1TB | PSU: Corsair RM650x | Displays: LG 27'' G-Sync compatible 144hz 1080p | Cooling: NH U12S black | Keyboard: Logitech G512 carbon | Mouse: Logitech g900

i5-4460 is your best bet, but if you can't afford that the i3-4160 would be the next best thing.

i3-4170 is your best pick between the two, but the 270 won't get you 1080p30fps on high for most AAA titles... GTX 960 and the R9 380/280x are the best for that.

Games are starting to not run on dual core systems... So as much as I hate to say it, ppl should stop recommending the G3258 unless the OP only plans on playing TF2 or a MOBA.

And the 860k... FM2+ is dead except for APU systems.

i cant find any 860k in my country; the only seller is some general shopping site (like for clothes or blenders and stuff) and might not be available anymore once i save up enough money

what else are you going to get on this price level? I know that games are starting to not run on dual-core systems, but if you get one, you can upgrade to an i5/i7 later without having to invest in a whole new platform. If you are going to be playing AAA titles on max settings, you need a totally different system entirely. The G3258 can still handle most games just fine, and same thing with the 860k.

does it have to be those 2? i mean, APUs are usually quad core and they're pretty cheap :<

the highest-end APU is the basically the Athlon 860K with an iGPU attached.

i've been playing on the igpu of a celeron dual core at 2 GHz for months now, i play at anything more than 20 fps and my mind will, in fact, blow :)

If you can swing it, I'd get a i5 4460 and a R9 290 or gtx 970. I know you're on a budget, but think of it as having something that will hold you over for a few years. It's worth the investment. If you absolutely have to pinch pennies, then I'd go with an i3 4160 and either an R9 280(x) or gtx 960. Nothing below that. Especially at 1080p and for the settings you're wanting.

I think i might be able stretch to an i5 4460 and a 960 (thats a BIG maybe!), but thats only if i absolutely cannot play at high to ultra settings with what i want (im cool with just high settings btw, thats what i meant by high to ultra settings sorry if that caused any confusion). but wouldn't something like 8320e be able to pull it off? honestly i dont care if its an ancient cpu; if i can play i wont complain.

Your best bet is the G3258, you can run a decent amount of triple A titles but it also depends what settings you play on it as well. It is a bang for the buck CPU and Linus has shown incredible benchmarks with a GTX 970. Your best bet for the GPU, is a GTX 960+ (Nvidia side) and a 280X (AMD side)

Duuuuuude... get a descend GPU and play at 60 fps with vsync. You'll feel as if you were reborn.

I've seen a few R7 370's popping up this week costing quite a bit less than a GTX 960 (€200 vs €270 for a 4GB card or €170 vs €220 for a 2GB card here in Belgium). And surprisingly looking at the benchmarks that I've been able to find, the R7 370 doesn't seem perform too bad when compared to the GTX 960. Sure it falls short by a few FPS in pretty much all games and benchmarks, but I think it fits right in the performance range you're looking for.

Oh and for CPU, either get a 4460 or stick with the celeron :P

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q

Notebook:  Clevo P651RG-G = Core i7 6820HK = 16GB HyperX Impact DDR4 2133MHz = GTX 980M = 1080p IPS G-Sync = Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD + Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD

I'd stick with the i5 4460. It's worth the extra cash. The AMD cpus aren't bad but for high/ultra.. You could save some cash and get the 4460 and R9 280 3gb. I'm using the i5 4460 and 7950 3gb with is basically the same as the 280 and it does just fine with most AAA games at 1080p.
