So I've been looking into doing a custom loop and the idea I had can be seen here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/395599-custom-loop-compatibility/

Another idea I had was getting a Swiftech H240-X and adding another 120 rad and eventually my GPU. The issue is with my case (Cooler Master HAF EX EVO) i would have to mount the unit sideways. Will it function properly like that? Also does the unit use G1/4 threads for the fittings? Will it enough fit in my case?

You can mount it in different ways except bottom up in the base. One of the barbs out of the pump is not G1/4. But Swiftech sells a adaptor to replace it. Other three are standard G1/4.

So as long as it's not mounted upside-down, I should be fine?

Yeh, you got it.

You would want to make sure that your case can take a 280mm radiator like the Swiftech H240-X and have enough clearance for the overhanging pump.

The 240mm version is called H220-X.

The naming scheme is a bit misleading IMO.

You hit the nail on the head. I just look up his CoolerMaster case, only supports 240mm rad. So he needs a H220-X instead of H240-X.

Why wouldn't I be able to mount a 280mm rad? The case does have the mounting points for duel 140mm fan in the front.

I don't have the case. According to CoolerMaster site, the case will support 240 rad in the front.
