currently i have the SteelSeries QcK, am i missing out on a better mouse mat 

 

this mouse mat slides alot around my desk

You have not used a decent mouse mat then? Or you have a very good surface on your desk.

Get one from a bigger brand such as Steelseries, Dont bother with the office stuff. I use one of those stupidly big ones.

My mouse doesn't even work on my desk, they're quite useful for a lot of people.

The Steelseries Qck is one of the best mousemats out there, loads of pro gamers use them and its one of the best sold mats.

OP what QcK do you have, the 2mm thick? Maybe try out the 6mm thick one(Qck Mass or Heavy the bigger one) Its a lot thicker and it has a rubbery sponge base and the cloth top as usual. I have the mass and i never had sliding issues, i deliberately have to lift it up or push it with a lot of force from the edge to actually move.

If nothing else the mousemat will save your desk from getting scratched up and also the glidepads on the mouse will wear out more slowly.  Also I'm pretty pretty sure a mousemat will not make you go Global elite overnight...but its a pretty small investment for a possibly substantial improvement. I for one used the desk for years and i'll never go back after getting a proper mousemat.
