Apple re-enables TRIM for third party drives in latest OSX update

This shouldn't have happened in the first place, but they at least backtracked about that decision even if it took them a while, anyways.
 
The most recent update to OSX Yosemite (10.10.4) has re-enabled the use of TRIM on third party SSD drives, though the process isn't just a plug n play like it use too, the user must enable TRIM manually via a terminal command that was added in the update called trimforce after executing the command, it will prompt a warning saying that not all devices support TRIM and that the use of it can caused data loss and corruption, it also has a legal warning saying that apple isn't responsible for any problems caused by the use of it and the user is responsible for all associated risks and problems

It is believed Apple decide to do a user dependent process due to very old SSD not supporting TRIM properly (like older/around SATA II days), either way, the only way to re-enable TRIM after Apple original block was with the use of third party programs, which are no longer necessary

Finally. 

Fuck you apple. First the mac pro forcing people to buy thunderbolt enclosures instead of just putting drives in, then it was this. 

You hate video editors that need to store and work with large raw files, don't you? 

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

This is good, but I still dont like the rootless thing they got going on with OS X/iOS.

 

On OS X it pretty much completely ruins Finder plugins, and customization of the system is sooo much more difficult. And on iOS, even if you jailbreak you  still wont have root access. RIP jailbreaking.

 

 

There has to be better ways of keeping the system secure without locking it down... But it is apple. I guess we should expect these things from them.

This is good, but I still dont like the rootless thing they got going on with OS X/iOS.

 

On OS X it pretty much completely ruins Finder plugins, and customization of the system is sooo much more difficult. And on iOS, even if you jailbreak you  still wont have root access. RIP jailbreaking.

 

 

There has to be better ways of keeping the system secure without locking it down... But it is apple. I guess we should expect these things from them.

How new is this? I just looked at my Mac Pro and it was enabled without me doing anything. The laptop is about a month old.

Fuck you apple. First the mac pro forcing people to buy thunderbolt enclosures instead of just putting drives in, then it was this.

You hate video editors that need to store and work with large raw files, don't you?

Most editors do not work with native content...

They go right into servers that store the content for everyone to use, and the Mac Pro has said gigabit ports for that specific purpose. Editors commit changes to shared drives, not their personal ones on their own computer. Akin to how LTTs setup is.

PCIe blade drives aren't proprietary, just that no one is making anything bigger than 1TB right now for a consumer drive and at the price points you're not saving anything anyways.

You aren't forced into buying any TB enclosure apart from the more niche components like a RED ROCKET or mass storage NASs, I'd still argue that most editors are working off servers and the beauty of Thunderbolt especially now that Intel is less stingy with licensing is that you can have external PCIe enclosures for anything and still chain your monitors and add one.

Technically, OS X is based on Unix and one can argue that yeah Unix is the most advanced OS in the world. (Linux fanboys please don't kill me I like penguins too :P)
