First time building a computer

savaGe_

Okay so I recently built a computer and at first the games weren't running correctly, fixed that. However now I feel they can still run better and I checked out my task manager, could this be the issue?

Problem  old as windows 8 is.

Getting SSD would solve this problem for sure. I haven't found a way how to solve this while using HHD.

Does your disk usage stay that high all the time?

It's not a race to the bottom.

I had similar/same problem with Aion. I made a conclusion(I could be wrong) that HDD is not able to load some files fast enough, so it was freezing.

Never fixed it on HDD, bought SSD and it was fine after that.

So you recommend getting an SSD for windows and use the HDD for games. etc?

Yup.

Put programs and most played games on SSD too.

It shouldn't stay high all the time. When you're just browsing the internet your disk should also be mainly idle.

Like others have said remove norton, it's completely rubbish.

Yea I got rid of norton forgot it got accidentally installed.

It stays high then goes down then goes back high, just while browsing

Try to fix the issue through AI Suite. My mobo was makin noise till i played with ai suite. You should be able to get it from the asus support page for your motherboard. I have the formula vii so im going to guess its similar. Try changing the CPU power phase to extreme. Its under the VRM Digi+ power control tab. Helps mine run better

Hey savaGe_,

I would suggest checking the drive for errors and if it's functioning properly. I would use WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=TyuOTH
Also check your resource manager to see what exactly uses up your drive and possibly get  rid of it. Do make sure you have all your latest OS and driver updates. :)

Out of curiosity is this install completely fresh? Because if it is I have a feeling if its "system" thats hogging the HDD usage then it might be creating a system restore point for the first time. People using an SSD might not experience a slow down when Windows does this because obviously SSDs are really fast. However a HDD on the other hand might feel the impact.

However I could be entirely wrong, what you could do is leave your PC idle for a couple hours to see if the disk usage goes down/away on its on, if it doesn't then its probably Windows and you might want to update to 8.1/10

Also have a quick look at this http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/windows-8-keeps-slows-down-to-100-disk-usage-and/cd787f8d-e7b4-4872-aecb-6f0cd15ad942?auth=1
