Any of you outsmarted teachers when it comes to tech at school/college/university

Well i have outsmarted my computer science teacher a few times ( he called me dumb). He thinks that i7s have 7 cores and asked him why 5960X exists and his mind went blank.

He got confused when i said that the UEFI is replacing the BIOS nowadays and that VRAM is even a thing lol

the technician at the highschool I went to still doesn't know how to change the SSIDs on the routers. it was my senior year masterpiece. little worm in the school system that changes the SSIDs to Never Gonna Give You Up lyrics every day.

Obviously not on University level. Most IT teachers in the lower grades are absolutely clueless.

nd yet my MATHS teacher knows more about PCs than he does lol, he keeps up with the latest tech as well 

He has done almost everything in the book regarding building PCs: custom watercooling, soldering BIOS Chips, custom modding cases and waterblocks and a lot more

My old tech teacher thought that when she book marked something on her browser, that it would automatically download and install that program (IE, Yahoo mail, gmail, etc) so I went on her computer and book marked pornhub and she thought she was getting viruses because her computer was running slow, but that's just because it was an old POS from like 2002... she ended up throwing that computer away and getting a new one...and it was the same make and model too! :lol:

Point something out to them sure, discuss it with them at times, But I'd avoid pointing out the fact that they're an idiot in front of the whole class.

 

Remember most lecturers in computer science are trained in software, very few make the jump to hardware which is essentially what you're calling him an idiot on. While I can't guarantee they know more about their chosen field, chances are they've still got something they can teach you.

 

Oh, and high school tech teachers don't count, most of them are people trained in another field, and just happen to be more tech literate than the other fossils on staff, because the school has to have a comp sci program, even if they don't have someone qualified to teach it.

I'm pretty sure I outsmart most of my school and most of the teachers in the field of tech/computers. Except my teacher on electronics engineering, such an awesome guy.

Yes, But not now, The teacher i had were awezome when it came to how stuff works.

But when it comes to almost any area of science i knew more. I even know more about the human anatomy and how the body reacts to different things than the medic teacher at my school.

Well, not really as I don't hang about any of them "well educated folk" from fancy places, but I did have a short argument with one that "had a degree" who refused to explain to me what part of the Japanese language gives him a right to omit words of choice.

 

I still think about it; what the hell was he on about? :unsure:

If your teacher doesn't know much about hardware, I would discuss it with them after class. I wouldn't point it out in the middle of class. I had a Comp Sci teacher last quarter that was absolutely awesome! One day in class, he made a comment that was incorrect (I forget what it is now, unfortunately) and brought it to his attention after class, and he reconciled his mistake next class. From then on, he deferred to me about things he wasn't sure about. He was a great guy, and it was a fascinating class since he knew an awful lot of stuff about old hardware (which is where most of my knowledge is missing.) I really enjoyed that class, and I think he enjoyed having me. Try having some tact, it may pay off later.
