Question for reference 980Ti owners

1Scotty1

Hey, fellow reference 980Ti owners

I have a question for thee - since my build is black/white, I want to mod the green "Geforce GTX" logo on the reference cooler, BUT... yesterday I read (on reddit I believe), that a dude tried to sand off the green paint on the logo, but to no avail, because his 980 (regular 980, not Ti) was different - the logo was no longer green painted plastic but colored rubber and sanding it made it even worse.

Now for the questions - is this the case with the 980Ti also? Is the logo painted rubber? Has anyone successfully modded their LED logo?

I am asking because I don't want to disassemble the GPU only to put it back together without actually doing anything to it.

Thanks heeps for answering ;)

How does light go through rubber...? Reddit it 4chans little brother, don't listen to what people say there (at least without looking somewhere else) I'll get my 980ti today and let you know.

Couldn't you just take it out and paint it?

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

White over green? Can be done, but I think there would still be some green tint when it lights up... Maybe I will disassemble it and see if it is plastic or rubber either way

The newer cards have a different sort of logo to the 700 series cards I think. The reddit guy may have just had weird logo.

I was reading the comments and I would suggest getting a REALLY cheap reference nVidia card and put the logo in there. Then you could put the shitty rubber back in the bad card and sell it or give it away.

Also, would a mod like this be a dumb thing to do? I don't want to buy the HG10 for 60 dollars, when I don't have to really. Custom loop is out of the question, that is why I am considering this:

No, custom loop or don't watercool. Please don't try these weird mods on such an expensive card.

Why not a custom loop? I would've spent the money on one instead of a 980Ti, you are only playing at 1080p for christs sake xD

So what are you going to do about that logo?

So what are you going to do about that logo?

First - Custom loop is expensive, 500€+ for me, plus I would have to sell the X61 Kraken

Second - I bought my 980Ti for the money I got from the two 970s + I game at 4K DSR ;)

Third - Logo will be sanded definitely

Corsair has those things too. :) out of the box.

I know, it is the HG10, but that is not needed, as seen in picture - all I would have to get is the AiO :)

Might want to update your signature then ;)

Are you ever going to do a custom loop though? You could put the money from the X61 into the loop and save up for the rest. IT WOULD BE SO AWESOME! I will after a set my rig up.

Why update, when the 39" TV is 1080p? :) 4K DSR is a software thing.

I might do a custom loop, but that is FAR in the future... and if the AiO mod works, then why bother? :D

Yeah, but at what cost

Modding reference cooler with an AiO of choice - 75-100€ max

Full custom loop - 500€+

I already have a job, but also I have a 6 month old daughter, so I have other priorities besides a custom loop :D

Yeah well you're an adult and I'm 12 ;) Sort of hard to have a job at this age when it's not even legal.

You are 12 - no wife, no kid, no other expenses besides PC - I rest my case :D That is why 500€+ is too much for me currently, and why I am considering this cheaper alternative ;) Rexis :D
