Which laptop should I get for school and some occasional gaming?  If I got with the XPS then I'm going to get the i7 model

Instead get a $750 computer with a 970, a ROG Swift, and some decent peripherals.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

are you taking the laptop to classes, if so i would say the xps 13 because a better battery but for the most part i would suggest the asus

Well if you are doing occasional gaming obviously the one with the dedicated graphics is the better choice. I.E. Asus one.

But those are 2 completely different laptops. One is for gaming and not for portability, and the other is for portability and not gaming. You will not be gaming on an XPS without dedicated graphics. And if you do go for it, get the i5 version because they perform VERY similarly. I have a similar laptop (Insprion 2 in 1) and having the option to fold it back into a tablet is great, and the battery life is very good.
