First of all, removing a drive from its enclosure would void any warranty that the drive might still have. Also, if the drive has hardware encryption as a feature, the drive won't be read outside of the case and removing it has a chance of losing all data on it, even if you put it back.
I would check if the drive has a "hardware encryption" feature. Usually if you take a drive out, it can be used if connected internally. I would check the drive's health first and see if using it internally is safe.
