    Well, its time for the NVidia fans to cry. AMD has released a card that is more powerful than the 980ti, at the same price, as well as possibly more powerful than the Titan x, at 350$ less. I think AMD has won this time around. I'm not ignoring the fact their R9/R7 300 series are rebrands.. which is disappointing, but were talking about the enthusiast end. Also, not only they beat NVidia in pricing and performance, on one of their FIJI architecture cards, they made a extremely small form factor card. It seems all the rumors have came true. There will eventually be a dual GPU Fiji card.. but no more details have been spoken from that. The Fiji card will have 4gb of HBM. They have 4096 Stream Processors, yes, this is a single GPU card were talking about :blink: I think AMD has shot NVidia out of the sky. Even if it isn't exactly the performance of the Titan X, it will still be better than the 980ti, and at the same price. Nice job AMD. I think its time for AMD fan boys to have a party, now that they can say AMD possibly has a card that's generally better then the Titan X, at a lower price.. possibly. I am really excited. What is your thoughts on AMD's "Fiji" lineup?

My only thought right now is to wait for benchmarks. Because, I'm pretty much sold right now, and benchmarks would seal the deal for me.

   Yup, 8 days until we see benchmarks. That is when the Water cooled version of the Fiji chip comes out. 

 

 

TBH I don't have the money for this stuff I like discussing it. I have a R7 265..

I think the if you are gaming at 4K then the GTX980ti is a much better option. Or just wait for Pascal with HBM V2 so it can have more then 4GB Vram. 4GB doesn't seem like enough at all

     That is a statement saying the GTX980TI is better. AMD wouldn't release a card so high end and not make it capable of 4k. And anyone with a 4gb gpu can't speak for HBM. Hbm is much faster, so its much faster then a traditional 4gb card. IGN says 4gb of HBM is the same as 6gb of gddr5.. which I don't believe, but is the VRAM amount of the 980ti, so basically they have the same ram amounts, so the 980ti wouldn't be a better option, considering your only talking about the VRAM.

AMD talked about optimizing drivers for those 4gb's, I believe it will be enough, 4gb's is still 4gb's but if they can use it efficiently. Kinda like how in maxwell L2 cache help take off load of the memory bandwidth. It's 512gb/s compared to 336gb/s. is what I think will greatly help in making the efficiency it needs to work well with 4gb.

Despite being re-brands, the R9 390x appears to perform almost the same as the GTX 980 in synthetic benchmarks, though these sources are sketchy. If this is really just old technology, why is AMD's old crap competing with Nvidia's new GPUs? The 980 was their flagship not too long ago. (The benches where the 390x is way ahead are probably due to the 980 running out of VRAM)

I applaud AMD. They did good today.... well their high end cards anyways.

But I'm gonna wait until HBM2 and Pascal comes out. besides, the 980 Ti is a beast of a card and no point in switching for minimal improvements.

I never knew 4k resolutions could have its pixels reduced so it uses less VRAM that makes 4GB equivalent to 6GB. The main point of HBM was deliver better performance with lower power consumption and reduce the space required on the PCB.

 

VRAM is MOSTLY affected by screen resolutions. And like i said above, 4k is 4k, 4 gigabyte is 4 gigabyte. Having HBM still renders 4k and will use the same amount of VRAM because pixels on the monitor remain the same.

 

Think of it this way, installing a 10GB game on a HDD will take up the same space as installing a 10GB game on a SSD (it's not the best analogy, but you get the point)

I think what is more interesting is in 3d mark 11 the 4gig Fury is beating a 12 gig Titan. Granted beyond 4k it takes a dive but imagine when type 2 comes out and they are no longer bound to 4 gig.

Yes bet the HBM runs much much faster than the vram, so even if size wise its not the same the speed at which it works is more than enough to make 4gb hbm out preform 6gb GDDR5.

Power usage seem to be within range of the 980Ti, rumors has the performance about the same, the real question left to answer is if it overclocks as well.
