New LGA1150 CPU that doesn't bottleneck my desktop

I have a new desktop that I finished building last Friday, and it works like a charm. I followed my advice from another thread to get an Intel Pentium g3258, but I bought an MSI Z97M-G43 mobo, a GeForce GT 740, and 8GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz DDR3. It may become obvious to someone technically inclined that this is not right, and that the g3258 would cause a bottleneck.

I can confirm that, because the CPU often causes freezes for a few seconds, without causing any of the other parts to break a sweat.

I started to overclock it to 4.0GHz last night, but overclocking scares me and the computer still freezes..

Since I already have the computer and nothing is limiting my or budget (my budget increases with time, because of my job, of course) what would you guys recommend would be able to match my motherboard and graphics card?

Its primary purpose is game development / gaming, and its secondary purpose is heavy internet browsing / media.

Again, the specs:

Intel Pentium g3258

MSI Z97M-G43

NVIDIA + EVGA GeForce GT 740

8GB 1866MHz DDR3 RAM

Doesn't seem like a bottleneck, more of a glitch. Software bugs? Running the latest drivers?

I'd boost up the G3258 To 4.4Ghz with like a Hyper 212 Evo, a GT 740 Should we well enough not to cause bottlenecks, You shouldn't really have any. I'm not entirely sure. + The voltage.

Freezing is not bottlenecking.

I have the same CPU but a 750ti. No bottle necking for me but mine is at 4.4ghz. I did notice stutters doing almost anything when it was at 4.0ghz. If you didn't care to overclock though you should have gotten an i3 although I define fly wouldn't have recommended any of those parts to you

Eh, I think the CPU is ways ahead of the GT740. If anything, your GPU is a bottleneck.

I don't think that's the case here, though.

Freezes are not bottlenecks but something is wrong... Check drivers? :D

Update the GPU a long time before the CPU lol. There is no single bottleneck with a gt 740, a 960 usually shouldnt, depending on the game.

You're looking for a new GPU first, gt series are entry level. Get a gtx 750ti or 960/970.

One of the things I have a question about is, was it a fresh install of windows? Or did you just swap the HDD (or SSD since you didn't mention storage) from an older machine to the current one?

I have a G3258, and I've never noticed any freezing or anything, and it's paired with an AMD HD 7950

because the cheapest R9 280X is 50$ more ...so 25% more expensive for an extra 10% performance...not worth it...if OP want to step it up beyond that i would recommend an R9 290 this one is 90$ more but price/performance you remain the same...

I don't understand why you guys are saying that the GPU is weak. The graphics card has absolutely NO problem keeping an impressive framerate at full 75fps when doing anything but very intensive graphics. Something else about the graphics that I may have overlooked when stating the specs was that EVGA said it's ”superclocked." Whatever that may mean doesn't matter, because the GPU is definitely NOT the problem. When the freezes occur, they occur whether I am running a program that involves graphics or none at all.

These freezes are definitely the CPU, for the following reasons:

1. When the computer freezes, it does not respond to any inputs for several seconds.

2. If I have task manager open, during a freeze, it always says that the CPU (both cores) are at 100% processing capacity. The moment it goes below 100% is when it unfreezes. No exceptions have ever occurred.

Now, there is one thing that I observed that may point that the cause BEHIND the CPU getting overloaded is something else.

Any time I press the button on my keyboard to make the computer sleep, and then come back a few hours later, the freezes occur very commonly and for extended periods of time - at least once per minute that is over 5 seconds. After a restart, the freezing stops. If I leave the computer running overnight without letting it go on standby, when I use it in the morning, generally there are no issues. I will do further testing tomorrow and give an update.

In any case, the Pentium architecture IS old and I want a better CPU, so I will be buying the core i5-4690K. However I suspect that this freezing problem still needs to be resolved.

In conclusion, the CPU getting overloaded is definitely the problem - not the graphics card. However, the cause to the freezes COULD be something else. If you have any ideas after this update on information to help, that would be very great. Thanks.

I have a new desktop that I finished building last Friday, and it works like a charm. I followed my advice from another thread to get an Intel Pentium g3258, but I bought an MSI Z97M-G43 mobo, a GeForce GT 740, and 8GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz DDR3. It may become obvious to someone technically inclined that this is not right, and that the g3258 would cause a bottleneck.

I can confirm that, because the CPU often causes freezes for a few seconds, without causing any of the other parts to break a sweat.

I started to overclock it to 4.0GHz last night, but overclocking scares me and the computer still freezes..

Since I already have the computer and nothing is limiting my or budget (my budget increases with time, because of my job, of course) what would you guys recommend would be able to match my motherboard and graphics card?
