New budget build: i3 4160 w/ r9 280 any good?

My friend wants to start pc gaming and wants a budget thats under 550€. (Prices are a lot higher in holland than US). I showed him this:

I3 4160

Sapphire r9 280 3G dualx

Asus b85me

WD blue 1tb

Crucial bx 100 120gb

Fractal design core 1100

CM g450m 450 watts

Crucial 8gb ballistic sport

Total: €549

Is this alright? I told him that brodwell won't really make a difference in gaming than haswell and that after Christmas he can get like an i5 4590 or 4690. Should he go with the r9 280 or wait till the r9 370?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated

Alberto.

450W is a little tight for r9 280, but it should be enough and the build is nice.

It will be fine. People do it on 430Ws just no overclocking lol. Also the build will be good :)

yep, this would be a nice build to start gaming on! :D

what games does he play mostly tough? because some games (FarCry 4 and such) tend to not work as smoothly on a dualcore, regardless of hyperthreading.

The only modern game he will probably play is gta v but other than that he will play older games.

Hey Albistramac and welcome to the community :)

The plan seems good and very decent for this budget. It should run most games without any problems. I really like the storage solution. :)
If your friend doesn't need much space currently and can only deal with the SSD, you can skip on the HDD (or vice versa), push the saved money on the other hardware and then, when more funds are available, get more storage. :)
