unless you go used you are not going to get anything anymore then marginally better then an d3100 at best and if you jump to a diff manufacture your lens are going to be useless.and you will of wasted money...just stick with the d3100

It's just too old for me. It can't live record to a computer and it only has like 720p video. I may get a Cannon T3... my friend uses one and it's great. I've borrowed it before and I really like it. I am just wondering if the Sony is a good deal, as that would more friendly for my wallet than the T3.

I can get a T5 for $320 on Amazon so that is probably what I'll do.

Only have one lens, the one that came with the camera. Nikon lenses are expensive.

Even still, selling it used you will be losing what $50+ not to mention you are going to need another kit lens...I haven't looked up the cost of entry level DSLRs I will be surprised if you can find a new one with a lens for $400 or less. And as said before you are not going to be going anywhere with quality by swapping brands. anything for that cost new will offer comparable image quality to a d3100

That has nothing to do with the camera body.

I just really hate how the Nikon can't do 1080p video. Really kills it for me.

Thank you, I didn't know this. Also, does the USB port on the camera work with a mic? I know it works on most but you can never be sure.

That much I don't know, you will need to ask someone else/nikon/do some independent research, I am coming from a d40 which had 0 video capabilities at all. So I dont really know what is and isnt doable when shooting video on a dslr.

A zoom lens with an aperture of f2.8 is more than twice your budget.

I guess that I can get one of those filters, right?
