Coldzero backplate. My experience and pictures. MSI 4G GTX980

A month ago I ordered a backplate from ColdZero for my MSI 4G GTX980.

It took about 4 weeks for the item to be made, mainly because they were in the middle of getting new fabrication tools.

The backplate shipped from Portugal to the US on May 27th and arrived May 29th.

I didn't pay for any fancy fast shipping so I was surprised it arrived so quickly.

It came with a set of screws and 2 sizes of spacers.

I used the larger spacers so the backplate would not touch any of the hardware.

It has fewer holes drilled into it than there are screws for the shroud on the card but the spacers hold the backplate high enough that the stock screws don't interfere.

Assembled.

A little hard to see but the backplate does not come into contact with any components on the back of the card.

Installed in my case.

When all was said and done I paid 39 European money unit.

I think it would be 5-10 money units cheaper now for the exact same one I ordered as their new tools allow them to make colored backplates like I ordered for the price of the non-colored plates.

Coldzero are very good. I've used them for custom backplates before.

PS: Dust you PC (:

The backplate is sweet but the dust is nasty. I mean look at that PCB!

Yeah, I hadn't thought about that beforehand.

ColdZero seems like they are more than happy to make alterations when ordering and I bet they could have offset the logo if I had asked but it isn't that big an issue to me.

I hit it with a burst with an air can but didn't feel like really wiping it down, though I likely will eventually.

I've only been cleaning out the dust filters and blowing out anything from the CPU and GPU heatsinks the last several months as it hasn't been nice enough to take it out side and really clean it out.

Having a gaming weekend with some friends and family in a couple weeks and when I'm packing my stuff up is usually when I really clean the dust out of it.

Having used my PC for a while after putting on the backplate I don't notice any change to the graphics card's thermals.

Might be 1c or 2c higher temps at idle and under load at most.
