Last resort solution before i sell my powercolor reference R9 290

I bought this card second hand about a month ago and it works normally without any artifacts, that said though ever since i got it, my pc monitor would black out when gaming, most frequently happens on cs go, but happens too in other games but not as often, sometimes it takes just a few minutes for this to occur, sometimes it takes hours

I've tried everything, first i rma my psu (cx600m), but to no avail, then i got a new seasonic X650 (because people told me that cx line is trash) that didn't solve the issue, still got black screen, and then i rma the seasonic X650 again only to have the new one killed by the vga card after it went black screen, the psu was completely rekt (amazing how a gpu can kill a psu, not the other way around) , sent it again for rma and got a new one and guess what problem still persists

Tried reinstalling the driver tens of times still doesn't solve the issue, tried running the gpu without a driver whatsoever still to avail.

Basically my card won't run stable whatever i do

My specs :

i5 4690k (4.6Ghz)

2x4gb 1600mhz corsair vengeance

Seasonic X650

ASRock H81M (weird mobo choice given my cpu i know, but I'm broke, and it has nothing to do with the gpu as the power is supplied through the pcie cable)

Corsair h100i

I did try turning off the cpu oc and run it at stock speed, still didn't solve anything

However, the gpu never crashes or does anything weird when running stress testing, furmark passed 5 hours

Now, before i put it up for sale, i wanna have one last try.

My specific card model is : PowerColor AXR9 290 REFERENCe (975 CORE, 1250MEM)

My guess is that the culprit is the pci e on your mb . I would test the 290 on a friends comp . I suspect you'll find it's ok .

What does that have to do? Before i bought the R9 290 i had been using a gtx 970 and it had worked fine

I had this problem with a Gigabyte mb . My HD 7990 worked fine but my 750ti when installed would get periotic screen blackouts . I was building a new comp at the time so tried the 750ti in the new comp parts on my ASRock mb on the test bench and , no blackouts . The culprit was the PCI E lane on the Gigabyte board .

Were did you get this card? I suspect it was used as a mining card or exhibits similar heat exposure problems. I bet a reflow might do the trick.

Hmmm did not think of a reflow . Good idea . But , he needs to test the card on another comp to first find out if the card is bad .

He does. I generally consider artifacting 100% the card though. But a reflow is a true last resort.

Ok if there's no response i think I'm gonna sell it.. It's annoying to always be bothered with black screen when you're gaming. amd sucks balls

well first remove any oc. then i would suggest checking for any scratches you may made to the gpu or the mobo. if there is nothing i would highly recommend testing the card on another pc before selling it. if the card is fine and the problem is somewhere else you wouldnt want to sell it.

*EDIT: Also check temps while gaming. running at 200+ fps on not demanding games can stress a gpu very much. limiting the fps is a simple solution for that problem.

I'm surprise you still have that effing card.

Try a different display input.

Try a different PCI-E slot.

Try a clean reinstall of the graphics drivers.

Your video card wouldn't be killing those power supplies. I would try a different wall plug (preferably on a separate circuit if possible)

Also check for BIOS updates from the mobo manufacturer.
