Best headset?

tvno

Can someone please suggest the best headset money can buy for less than £200 for gaming. From competitive games like CS:GO to casual games like Witcher 3. Thanks!

EDIT: I've been very interested in the Sennheiser G4ME ZERO

I'd get something along the lines of an ATH-M50 with an Antlion modmic.  But if you want a good "Gaming" branded headset, pretty much the best option is the HyperX Cloud.

HyperX Cloud II hands down. Or you can do something like an Audio Technica ATH-M50X with a Modmic.

Agreed!  The ATH-M50X is an amazing pair of headphones.  The Modmic just makes it even better!

The M50X are horrible for gaming due to narrow soundstage (bad for positional audio). Even for music and movies they are way too pricey. The M40X offers much better value. For a stand-alone headphone something like Sennheiser HD518/HD558 would be much better for gaming.

I don't see Creatip, SSL or the other audio gurus here. neither did anyone here has claimed to be an authority on audio. IMO, the ATH-M50/40 series are bad for gaming due to their close nature and boosted bass, which would muddies mids. Please don't say I hate Audio Technica, I don't, I have two cans from the ATH-AD series plus I'd soon be getting an ATH-W5000 as well, so definitely not hating on Audio Technica, or the M50/40 for the matter, just that I don't think they're quite as good as some make it out to be.

And yes, open back cans would be better for positional gaming since they have clearer mids, and better soundstage. And no, I ain't no expert, just someone who listen to a good variety of cans....

Errrr no, I wouldn't recommend them for gaming no way. They excel in other areas but not for gaming their passive isolation makes them good for long car rides/airplane rides or on the go, but for gaming they get fatiguing, I would recommend something like a HD 558 + a mod mic  or a DT 990 Pro with a mod mic. Clouds are "meh" you could get much better to be honest.

I have the DT 990's and I often get accussed of hacking in CSGO, very excellent soundstage and has a fun colored soundstage, with excellent bass and comfort.

I don't trust those YT 'reviewers, like Lachlanlikesathing, I'd rather read reviews from Tyll of InnerFidelity. I could have gotten an M50X or M70X, but at the MSRP of the M70X here, I can land a used Shure 1540 easy.....close cans aren't as good as open cans for positional gaming, but good ones like the Shure 1540 would do in a pinch. I'd much rather have a used Shure 1540 to a spanking new ATH-M70X......but hey, that's just me.

shure i would also go with used sure over the M70X but the M50X is more than 100$ cheaper than the M70X, and for that price they are awesome

Awesome? I guess it depends on one's perspective.....for the Amazon price of 149.99USD for the M50X, I'd rather get a Philips Fidelio X1 over at eBay for exactly 5USD more....that is, 154.99USD

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Philips-Fidelio-X1-28-Premium-Over-Ear-Headphones-BRAND-NEW-PREMIUM/131521331176?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3Dcb0870fd03fd467b86059977209fe0d5%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D110947048350

I have both the X1 and the HX Cloud, I still use the Cloud from time to time especially when it's raining outside, it isolates noise well enough. The X1 is excellent for positional gaming and has a nice bass presence, much better for music as well. Honestly, the X1 at 154.99 makes the M50X look rather unappealing at its pricepoint.....unless passive noise isolation is a must have.

I guess you didn't read the OP then, look at his budget, why would I get a medicore headset when I could get something better if I got the cash?

You quoted the wrong person, and gotta be more specific about "m40".  There are tons of audio products with the m40 sku.
