~$3,500 Dual Xeon workstation setup

Hello

 

I have completed a dual socket workstation currently featuring a pair of Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 6-core CPUs @ 2.4 GHz on an Asus Z10PE-D8 WS motherboard, complemented by two kits of Crucial 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 2133 MHz ECC memory kits for a grand total of 32GB. the CPUs are being cooled by two Corsair Hydro Series H60 120mm AIOs. The card in question now is the GeForce GTX 970, and yes for gaming, its OVERKILL!!! You don't need 12 cores, 24 threads to game well, you can do fine with even a quad core CPU. All of the components will be powered by an EVGA Supernova 650 GS Gold certified modular power supply. It will be fitted into a Corsair 750D case which will receive a standoff placement mod to fit the motherboard since Corsair lists the case as compatible for E-ATX, ATX, XL-ATX, mATX and miniITX. All of this for the tower sits under $3,000.

 

The peripherals are the Corsair Gaming K95, Logitech G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse, and the Asus PA248Q Pro Art Monitor

This particular PC is a workstation PC for my college major in 3D Animation and modeling and video game development.

I know 2.4 GHz is lackluster, but I needed to fit the bill for $3,000 on the tower. If I had a bigger budget, I would go with some nice 8-core Xeons instead.

 

Thats so Underkill it makes me want to cry.

It's a workstation dude. If it was a gaming system for $3,000, I would have went ahead and use a 5820K with one Titan X.

 

$1000 could get you a better build.

Uhh in what way for a workstation? I need all of the processing power for rendering and digital content creation for my major and my initial work at a game company.

No dude. K80s run in at ~$4,999 a pop. So all-in-all, it's not funny at all.

Where do I find the box where I can check if it's built or not? Also I will be building it when my financial aid rolls in.

Oh bro your case won't fit the board

Not if I punch two holes in the motherboard tray for the standoffs to go in. SSI EEB measures 12" x 13", but does not use the ATX mounting holes. Two of the holes in the middle row are offset towards the bottom of the board.

This isn't a server bruh. It's a workstation and I'm on a budget of $3,000 on the tower. If you think I can do better with the parts that revolves around the board in question, it will be much appreciated.

 

Also with one Tesla K80 sitting at ~$4,999, it's almost $2,000 over budget for one card already. And I don't work for a business for HPCA.

For 40$ more you could have 16 cores and 32 threads.

-Ram running in dual channel witch shouldn't change performance noticeably.

-Slightly less features on the motherboard you can compare them on Asus's website.

-No noisy liquid coolers but then again these CPU's only produce 85 watts witch is tiny.

-Different case but is still great and fits the hardware better.
