980 SLI power usage!

refhat21

Recently I got another GTX980, after setup I noticed my GPU1 using 63 percent power usage and my 2nd GPU power usage is 98 percent. I am using 1080p monitor, is this the reason my GPU 1 not running at its full potential? I will upgrade to 4k later this year I just want make sure nothing wrong with my card or the system.

Probably because you're only at 1080p it's not fully utilizing the cards.

Do you have v-sync or anything on?  Also what games is it doing this in?

I doubt any game at 1080p will utilize 2 980's fully...

I am hoping your right.

Why are you running 2 differnet cards in sli?

it will only use the max speed of the regular 980

Basically you wasted money on the superclock,

i bet the 63% is the SC and the 93% is the 980.....  (or probblyy top card 93% and bottom 63%)

I am planning to overclock the 2nd card to march superclocked speed.

It doesn't matter if you have vsync on or off -- at 1080p pretty much every game is CPU bound with 980s.

What on earth are you talking about?   the SC doesn't get any kind of special treatment really, it's not like the SC is going to overclock 100 mhz higher than the non SC.

It's really just luck of the draw at that point.

It'd be one thing if he had a normal card paired with a kingpin, but the SC is really nothing special at all.

All good buddy :)

It's very well possible that his SC could do an extra 50 mhz over the normal card, but it's possible it could be the other way around too.

Just overclocked to match SC, now its fine. Both GPU running around 88 percent usage.
