Acer Aspire x3200 case moding. (maybe)

Hi guys and gals.

I have an Acer aspire x3200 as a general workhorse around the house gives me access to windows 8.1 pro. its a fairly good system AMD Phenom ii x3 2.1 ghz with 4gb ram. only 2 sata connections with a 360GB 3.5" HDD and a Labelflash dvd RW originally purchased in about 2008 so she has done well so far. for a basic system its got plenty of options and plenty of USB 2.0 ports and a multi card reader. my review is its a good machine for the basic user with only the interest to do basic stuff at a general user level.

Any way back to the thread.

As after 7 years this little monster is now starting to develop a very serious roar from the power supply. and although im an electronics engineer I don't really think i would want to go inside it except as a last resort.

Does anyone have an idea if it is possible to remove it from its original enclosure and put it in a medium tower or box system. please not the reply why would you want to, I'm all about getting the use out of things until they finally collapse. I would like to keep as much connectivity to the front as it already has.

Does anyone have an idea if there is an IO shield for the motherboard DA061/087L. as its original is designed into the case

What power supply would be the best to fit the current one is a PE-5221-08  slim form and obviously a new case would need to support its old standards. I wouldnt really want to push it to a corsair 1500w really "satyr".

as for extras from the new box I already have a replacement graphics full height waiting for it if required or the sff radeon card i got for it awhile back. I would plan on a internal raid card to add more HDD or SSD as it only has two card slots. probably 2 HDD in a raid and the ssd as the system.

So there we have it. You will probably say I'm crazy but give me a chance I am completely insane so the wife says.

Thank you in advance for positive comments.

Colin

It will theoretically fit into any case that accomadates the same mothrboard size. I wouldnt really worry about getting an I/O shield as they arent exactly a must have. So long as the power supply has the right connectors for the motherboard and fits into the new case which it should) then any will be fine. Just get roughly the same wattage as the one you have.

thanks for the advice Im still looking into the full mod, but Ive bit the bullet, stripped her down and taken the power supply unit apart. the fan was on two wires chopped not far from the fan replaced with a new one, same size but a bit thinner proper stripping and crimping techniques used on in line splices (im an electronics engineer after all lol. wrapped up properly with insulation tape after to protect them and applied a few Tywraps (other cable tieing products are available.)within the psu to ensure safety and airflow. rebuilt the system and applied some cable management thorough clean as hey when in Rome. powered up and ran a stress test to make sure the fan is pushing out adequate heat away from the case. so far so good and a quiet system to boot.

case mod maybe on my G5 instead.
