Overclocking problem appeared out of seemingly nowhere on GTX 980.

I have an EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 (this one). Out of the box I attempted an overclock and got a stable +120 MHz core and +200 MHz memory OC on 124% power limit and +54 mV overvolt. I only overclocked when necessary (playing FC4 on 1440p@60fps on ultras is not an easy task). So it wasn't overclocked 24/7.

A month ago I installed Win10 Preview. Two weeks ago whenever I try to use DisplayPort to output video my display goes to power saving mode and turns off. So I started to use DVI. A week ago I purchased Witcher 3 and tried to OC again but this time it barely OC'd to +110 MHz core and no OC on memory on the same OV and power limit. And even then it would crash after an hour. So I disabled OC and managed with couple of settings on high instead of ultra.

When I started writing this post I fired up the Afterburner and tried to OC again this time while checking with Kombuster. Now it doesn't like going above +50 MHz core and +100 MHz mem at all. +60 MHz core crashes it almost immediately. That was with full available OV mind you. And power consumption never went above 120% despite the limit of 124%.

Here is the info about the system (CPU's OC'd to 4.6 GHz).

What can be the problem? Deteriorating hardware? Crap Win10 drivers?

EDIT: It seems that with power limit set to 100% and no OC whatsoever it underclocks to 1038 MHz. I am now downloading win8.1 drivers. I hope they at least install.

Vorið kveður vetur.

Við munum gera betur.

Why are you overclocking on Windows 10? That's the first mistake you made.
