Which CPU?

So... I have an FM2+ Socket motherboard, it appears to be fairly high end, this motherboard can only really run mid range AMD cpus, I bought the motherboard last week so I ain't changing it for a while. I currently have an AMD Athlon II X4 760k which is fine for most games, it's games that handle very complex data like DayZ and Planetside 2 that start to lag due to information not graphics.

So the questions;

1. Should I venture on to Intel? I am very sceptical of doing so though, I think FM2+ has something to offer me that I don't know, plus my motherboard is for AMD and I do not want to go replacing it already. Should I go Intel?

2. If I do go to Intel, which motherboard would be a good choice if I were to buy a mid-range i5 quad core? (No real need to overclock).

3. If I stick with AMD, (which means I can most likely keep my motherboard) Which CPU should I go for in that field?

NOTE: This may be pretty useless but I have an NVIDIA GTX 760 from MSI.

760K is about as good as you get on fm2+.

if you want to get mid range i5 h81/h97 mobos would be perfect.

GPU considerations do come into it

I run an FM2 A8-6600K with a 750Ti and it can tackle most games I throw at it like a low-mid range gaming rig should. If you really have money to spend, go for the 12 compute core A10

a10 has the same performance as 760k... sadly.

1. Yes. Intel is the way to go. I run a q6600 and it handles well even in today's games.

2. If you're not overclocking, go with the cheapest one you can find so long as it has what you want.

3. The best FM2+ CPU is a 860k/7850k, both of which are ass.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

Yeah, you're right. I bought the motherboard to go specifically with the CPU as I thought there were more cpus running FM2 or FM2+. I have a slight preference for AMD.

amd is dead till 2016, not worth even thinking about them.

How much do you want to spend on the new CPU and mobo? Either get i4 4160 and H81 mobo or a 4460 and a H81 mobo

I don't know what to do to be honest. I want to stick with AMD because it's what I know but I'm not sure. I definitely can't change it for a while.

I'd like to spend around £130 for the CPU. I spent £90 for my current motherboard so around that.

you dont have an upgrade path on fm2 so your cpu is like the top.there is the the 860k but its the same as yours. you are stuck with weak athlons. so yes go intel. a cheap h81/b85 is all you need.msi b85-g41 pc mate is cheap and good. front usb 3.0,4 ram slots,6 sata...

Pfft. I can deal with it, it's quite minor anyway.

Dual core? I'm very sceptical of this. Maybe go up to i5?

Also, my current motherboard kicks that board's ass.
