CPU for a $700USD budget build

I want to build a pc but Im wondering if its better to get an Intel cpu or amd. Because for that I need to know what motherboard i choose with what socket.

So intel or amd (its a budget pc so maybe that changes things because amd is cheaper)?

AMD if you only have the money to spend on a AMD Athlon X4 860K and are not planning to upgrade soon, or Intel (i3 4160 or so) if you have the money for it.

It really depends on the budget and use case scenario. There is no conclusive answer.

Depends on what you want and your budget. If gaming, the only time I'd go AMD is if your budget is sub-$400 (and in that case, I'd go used intel anyway over new AMD).

For gaming, Intel.

For dual purpose gaming/workstation, intel

For intense workstation with a high budget: intel

for workstation on a small/medium budget with no gaming: AMD.

Intel is superior is most cases except in price. However what is your budget anyway  ? If you have 800 or 700 $ budget you can easily fit in an Intel CPU in it.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

Games do not use all cores, those games in particular that use 1-2 cores, CAN SUFFER GREATLY on FX CPU's. Im talking avg fps in the 20's... on some game titles, yet this does NOT happen on the Intel cpu's due to the 'per-core' instruction speed of each CPU. (Google "what is CPU IPC")

Each core of Intel's is 1.6x faster than each AMD core, so those games that use only 1 or two CPU's to do the work, have less performance on FX, some games are SEVERE in their performance drop when comparing AMD VS Intel.

The fact that when you have one of these games, using fuck all CPU threading, you then need to OC the FX CPU to enhance its abilities when its not fully utlized.

Problem being, you NEEEEED a 8+2 power phase board, and a good CPU cooler to match.. requiring these, makes AMD FX MORE expensive, and less performing.

Some games are great on both CPU's (BF4 and some other AAA-titles) but some other games can be deemed UNPLAYABLE on FX CPU's (ARMA3) to some people.

Basically.. why play 4 out of 5 games fine when for the SAME/SIMILAR price, gets you a system that has no issues playing 5 out of 5 games due to the CPU not being the limiting factor in those lightly threaded titles, which are more commonplace than you think, esp in F2P games.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Do you want to cause a third world war or why did you ask this?

If you want constructive answers, tell us what your budget is and what you are planning to use the CPU for.

I'm assuming this is a gaming machine, although this build also works for your price range as a dual purpose gaming/workstation machine. I'd only make changes if you didn't need the GPU.
