To RMA or not to RMA

Junpaku

I have an XFX 7870 and was recently approved to RMA it. However, I will need to spend $70+ CAD to ship it to them (USA, Cali).

Is this worth it? Or should I just save up for a better more recent GPU and sell this old one?

Please let me know what you guys think.

is it $70 both ways, i.e. $140? then its not worth it.

But if its just $70 then I think it's worth it

well. usually its just the cost one way.

and usually with old cards they tend to give you newer ones, because they dont have any of that old stock left.

Well, probably not worth it?

A 2nd hand 6970 cost not that much more, and performance is about the same.

And if you want to upgrade, which isn't a bad idea, it might be a better idea to get rid of it and get a new one.

Ask them to pay for shipping cos $70 is just too much.

The cost is one way, they pay for shipping back to me.

I will go to the post office to get a better estimate.

Would be great if they gave me a newer one (280 maybe?)

Man the bs companies get away with in regards to RMAs.  They should be covering much more.  It isn't like they get a large number of RMAs out of all the cards they sell.  I would love to see the percentages of cards that are RMAed.

$70? What, I live in PEI and I had to send a PSU to Corsair in Cali and I spent like $30 on shipping via Canada Post. What shipper are you using?

I measured the box of the GPU and got its weight from amazon and got an estimate from Canada Post's website.

Sorry never had to RMA before, I may be doing something wrong.

Sure. This does not include a separate box, excluding the actual GPU/product box.

l x w x h = 16cm x 10cm x 32cm

weight = 3-4lbs (not sure because my weighing scale is broken)

Alternatively you could go by the dimensions here:

Worth checking some companies will allow you to claim back your shipping after they have confirmed the fault.
