Fans running full speed in linux(Elementary OS/Ubuntu)

Hello lads

Today i installed Elementary OS on my Lenovo g580 laptop,it runs purfectlly fine but the fans run full speed no matter i do.Even if only the desktop is up and no programs are started.I had the same issue with the last few versions of Ubuntu as well.I have tried installing fan control etc. but it didnt help at all.I was running windows 8.1 40 mins ago and i didnt had any problems with the speed.I believe that this is just a driver issue or something like that but i cant find the solution myself.

Can anyone help me with it please

Thank you

You need the power control drivers + software for Lenovos or they run hot and go crazy.

It is a common problem when you buy a laptop that isn't 100% Linux-based-OS ready.

Missing drivers results in lack of power management feature and reduce battery life, and system performance.

For the longest time, when I was on my Dell laptop (that is back in 2008), installing Ubuntu, resulted the wonder full performance of choppy mouse movement, no sound, very weak signal wireless despite being right next to the router, no Ethernet, fan running at full speed.

After like 4-5 years later, it finally had better drivers making is usable. In my case, it was a pretty bad case of incompatibility, but it is very common the kind of situation you are experiencing.

In my case, I needed it for university, but I fixed that by staying under Windows and using a VM.

But if you want Linux it is best to do research in making sure your laptop is 100% compatible with Linux. You can also buy system like Dell XPS Developer Edition which comes with Linux based OS (Ubuntu), and I think select Lenovo class laptops also are available running Linux. Those kind of system, you'll get the best experience.
