MSI GTX 970 Gaming SLI overheating

A couple of days ago i went from a singe 970 to dual 970, with a single 970 the temp was at 67* C under full load and there was no different noise from idleing and full load, Now they idle at 62 and 64*C and reach 80 and 87*C under full load and fan speed ramping up 70% (2000rpm) (the hotter is the top one)

Anything i can do to reduce the temps and them making less noise? with the front intake fans at 100% it goes down to 85 ish

You know this is the second person I have seen with temp issue with that case. My friend has 290x's and he cant keep them cool in that case. I think its just bad design/airflow im afraid .

reduce the voltage of the cards. my 7970s, I cut 25*C off load temps because from the factory it had a sucidal amount of voltage. you can expect 10-15*C drop by reducing voltage. 

 

what case fans+number of case fans do you have? its possible that the case is just heating up much faster. and those temps are high, but your not going to kill anything with them.

WELL. look at the gpus in it. 290xs? unless they are reference, your dumping 400 watts of heat into the case. you need a hell of a lot of airflow to fix that

hmmm, from the mobo it seams you only have one, (because most gpus the one slot under the pci slot they are in)

And when they are idling they stay at 63*C wich means the fans is never turning off

How about try removing all unessary drive trays.

Move all of ur drive to the top

settings, compatibilty(first page) unlock voltage control. when you overclock, you increase it to give you headroom, we are doing the opposite. I was able to keep 2 7970s in check with cheapo 4$ case fans in a s340.

yes, i already removed all the drive trays, exept one which ison the bottom, i will try moving it to the top

i live in bergen so it is a bit cold but i normaly heat the room to around 25*C

yes i can set a power target, but i set that to 110% (since it is locked with temp limit) to keep it from thermal throttling

i tried heaven benchmark with the hdd tray out of the way, then it dropped to 80*C
