Would you trade a Strix 970 for two 7970 Lightning cards if your rig could run it all?

cab11150904

I have the chance so I was just wondering how much more power I would get in the games it works with?  Please don't bother with my power bill or other stuff.  Not a concern.  Also just assume that CFX will work where I need it to.

The 7970 Lightnings should be worth about $300 all together, the GTX 970 STRIX should be as well. I would consider trading mine for it.

No. One good card is worth two medium cards anyday. You will only get the benefit of the second 7970 if the game has a crossfire profile and even then you dont get perfect 100% scaling. Not to mention other issues that AMD tend to have with drivers and bugs (speaking from personal experience here)

If it was 2 Lightning 290x I would take it in an instant, but 2 7970s Lightning I would need more time to consider...

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

I would do it I'm about to trade a R9 280X for dual 7950's.

So you're trading a 280x for the equivalent of 2 280s? That's a good deal.

Sig under construction.

Wouldn't do it.

7970 Lightnings are either all dead or dying.

But you have to take into consideration

1. Crossfire stutter

2. Poor crossfire optimisation

3. More heat

4. More power

5. 0.5GB less VRAM

lost my response. dont want to type it all back out. basically, I had dual 7970s. youll honestly regret it. Its a freaking pain. Most games its a struggle to get them to run properly, and your not even gaining that much power.

Just please dont. I honestly will take my now 750ti over dual 7970s i used to have. let alone a 970.

2 months ago it was still a serious problem, the only game I could get to run decent with both cards was bf4. and that game you could max out with one card anyway

no. old tech should never replace new tech, especially if the new tech is comparable. We're still waiting for AMD to release a Crossfire driver for Witcher 3.

NO i traded my 7970 & 280x that was in crossfire for a Msi GTX 970 and it was the best decision ever. WHY the 7970 and 280x ran so hot  and loud like really loud loud and not many games work in crossfire so you would only have the power of one 7970 so. crossfire is still very buggy
