Help me guys to choose: Titan X or AMD Fiji

VagabondWraith
Go to solution Solved by Merry,

Just think that Titan X is available now and its specs are awesome.

If that's not enough, think that AMD is kinda disappointing each time. (delay, exagerated perfs, poor drivers).

Add to that the fact a Titan X will always sell back better (proportionnally) than anything coming from AMD.

So I almost have all the money for the TiX. Recently sold my 980 and now without a GPU (HD 4600 graphics are not going to cut it).

I can wait a bit longer but I can't wait around for AMD forever. I'm excited about Fiji and want to make the right choice. Would hate to buy the TiX now then have buyers remorse if the Fiji card blasts the TiX and is cheaper.

I prefer NV but have no problem going team red if they have what I like.

Help me guys to decide... its driving me nuts.

P.S. I have no issue if the Fiji card is water cooled since I have a Corsair 760T.

May I ask why you sold your 980?

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

How about you wait for your other option to actually be released?

Going to 4k and don't wanna deal with SLI/CF. Would rather have a single powerful GPU option.

I could wait but AMD has no confirmed date. Fiji may or may not not be out til July/August with the 3xx rebrands first.

That's where I need your guys' advice: to wait or not. :D

Probably would but I don't want 2 GPU's. Just a single powerful option.

Right now there are some leaked benchmarks with the Fiji inching just ahead of the TitanX (like 5%), but honestly it will come down to cost, brand preference, availability and whether AMD can keep driver support up for Fiji. They have admitted themselves that they will have to optimize drivers to use memory size more efficiently with 4K, while the TitanX has Memory for Miles and will face no such problem. In 2 or 3 weeks, duplicates of this thread will pop up, and real answers may be possible.

why?

SLI issues. I know it may be overblown but I'd rather a new game run well on 1 card than have SLI issues to begin with.

Plus I kinda have a love for having thee top card for each generation. :D

It really depends on the price and benchmarks. If AMD Fiji beats the Titan X and costs say 150 dollars less as the rumors suggest, then I don't see any reason to spend more on a Titan X. The 12 GB of memory is massive overkill and will never be utilized in gaming before the card becomes obsolete. Whether Fiji's 4gb of super fast high bandwidth stacked VRAM will be enough a year or two from now its hard to say.

As you wish, but they ARE overblown ^^ they used to be pretty bad, nowadays 2-way configurations work just fine.

sli usually provides better average fps but it rarely improves lowest 1% frames.

Meaning sli frame rate fluctuates more than a single card.

I cant stand frame rate dips. Id rather 45 flat than 30-60 fluctuating. So I dont SLI. I tried it 6 months ago, it hurt my feelings

You made every point I was looking for. My love for Nvidia is too much. haha Titan's do hold their value quite well as I see Titan Black still pushing $600-700 on eBay. My first thought was the TiX and that's what I'll go with. Although I'll hold out just a bit longer for 980 Ti results just to be sure.

Hi I know you already have your anser. I have Titan X sli. Let me know if you want me to test any games for you. My build is in my signature. I run 1440p@144Hz Asus Rog Swift. I ran Shadow of Mordor HD Texture pack at Ultra with 5k DSR and got 40fps and 4k at 65fps.

Love cats and Linus. Check out linuscattips-fan-club. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Z9QDVn and Asus ROG Swift. I love anime as well. Check out Heaven Society heaven-society. My own personal giveaway thread http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/387856-evga-geforce-gtx-970-giveaway-presented-by-grimneo/.

Ty ^^

IMHO 980ti won't be as good as TiX. First it's 8.33% worse than TiX.

Secondly, it has half the memory(won't allow the upload of some hi-res textures), and i'll guess a share of it will be way slower (tho not that noticeable, just pointing it out).

Thirdly, custom made 980tis will cost as much as TiX's. Or like 50 dollars less. Just coz PCB and the shit.

Imho, go for TiX, watercool it later (or look at the MAYBE hybrid cooling that is maybe coming) then sell it when 10XX is out
