AMD Motherboard Recommendations

[Complete the Circuit]

I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard and was wondering if anyone could give any recommendations?

 

CPU is an AMD FX-8350, with 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 RAM.

 

I'm currently using a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3, and want to upgrade due to more PCIe slots, SATA 6Gbps, and most importantly to overclock my CPU.

 

I've been looking at the gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3. Any thoughts on this or input on other boards would be appreciated, thanks.

i have the ud5 and i love it and i have a friend that has the ud7 they both would be a fair upgrade. nothing wrong with a good asus or msi board though.

Why get a 990 when you just want a 8000 series CPU? 990s are mainly for 9000 series right?

990 chipset is practically a requirement for 8 series, Good VRMS yo.

the MSI Gaming 970 is using a AMD 970 chipset

 

but it got good VRMs for the FX8 chips

those are your cheapest options for overclocking boards...if you want to spend more, then yes ASUS and Gigabyte's 990FX boards are the one to go with.

But why don't you just sell your AMD combo online to the most offering and order intel kit? you would get much better performance.

I'd avoid the MSI 970 Gaming, after suffering a year of ups and downs with that board I'd give it a miss.

I'm not terribly well-versed in AMD motherboards so I just throw out the ones I see getting recommendations, and that I know have good VRMs

The board itself is fine but I had issues with the boards bios, for example there's a bug in the early bios that cause the voltage to double what you adjust it to. An update to the bios will fix it but causes the motherboard to randomly freeze (tested and retested over and over) I ended up with 3 boards all with the same issues.

Ended up creating a custom bios from the two, wish I had kept the files to post on here
