So yeah, this will be my friends first rig. He's a console gamer but I feel he may be about to convert.
He started off by showing me some pre built thing off of amazon for £400 and asked if it could run gta etc.
It had intergrated gpu which I told him was a no go and would ask here.

I'm thinking maybe a 280x for the gpu which I have foung for £160 and pc partpicker.
8gb ram for £50

Hoping for an intel cpu but honestly I'm stuck here.

I take it his budget is around £400?
You're not going to get anything decent for that money. £600 and you might be able to get something that will last a few years, and play GTA comfortably

If you want my attention, quote my post or I will not see it. I ignore builds that do not use PCPartPicker.

That budget.......compromise for higher performance.

Buy used.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I wouldn't say that you wouldn't get anything decent but it isn't going to be spectacular. Though as skilledrebuilds said, it's probably better to buy used at this price point.

Teach him teh wayz....

Shopping online for bargain discounted or 2nd hand parts, after getting some together (on the cheap cos you didnt rushbuy a prebuilt and have moneys to shop around with) show him guides on how to build a PC from youtube or do it in front of him.... for him.... and then use that as a guide to inform him of benefits to such things your working on,.. giving him peace of mind and useful info.

Show him that you ALWAYS do custom install options, never easy/express options, show him how to navigate folders...installing and removing..

All this confidence and he should be wanting to then take care of things afterwards....himself hopefully.

/Or someone will use voodoo magic and make a nice build for you in PCpp.

I'm thinking this build with a 2nd hand GPU.

I know Im beating that dead horse again (2nd hand) but he could get a more powerful card in that machine by only using that GPU money alone on something last gen but at a higher tier or something.

I'm personally not a second hand person, but if you feel confident with it, then yeah.

Yeah I hear what your saying. I wil speak to him about that.

He will more than likely go for it :)

But either way that price is somehow below the budget...flabbergasted!
