What do you say to someone who thinks high end pc s are a waste of money

Overkilled

^^ my uncle thinks my pc is a waste and it's starting to piss me of he obviously knows about computers because he built my first one but he thinks you only need a £50 graphics card, one case fan (stock Cpu cooler?) And a £15 case, he thinks my enthoo luxe is stupid and couldn't see the appeal of a 900d or sm8

I don't have a fancy house, fancy car, or fancy suit, but I do have a damn fine, fancy lookin' PC.

*but seriously though, all the money for a PC build should be for power, not for looks. Get a cheap trashy case and use the leftover cash for a better GPU/CPU.

Git Gud.

You tell them why you think it is not with proper arguments?

There are some people who have their minds made up and you have no hope of changing it.  Best thing to do is just say "ok" let them go about there business knowing full well that what you do with your PC is your business and that if it's worth it to you it shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I agree, I can't see the appeal of a 500$ case.

I agree with the case statement. I personally hate the 900D. It's just too big

Why does it matter what he thinks?

In other words,.. you say nothing...

If you must say something in defense of it,...well.....

"Any variety of hobby/entertainment can eat up a sum of money.... at least you can be proud of what you have and how far it's come"

Many hobbies and interests take money, but if your actually proud to put money into it, thats your business..

His needs are different to yours, maybe explain that if you have to.. different strokes for different folks.

A PC with a single CPU fan (no intakes) and a $50 GPU won't be playing YOUR 3D titles with the ease of use and abilities that you and your mates play & socialize with.

Even if you go into detail, he may just not listen so it may not be worth mentioning at all anyway.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

2 things:

First, if you buy a £3000+ PC and you only use it for Minecraft/gaming, it is starting into the extreme hobby/luxury/waste of money territory.

You have INCREDIBLE amount of processing power, yet you are using it to render  something for your entertainment at nice visuals.

If you use that processing power for being productive, of course it is not waste of money.

This was the answer to your topic title, as it is completely different than your post.

Indeed, if you have a case with good ventilation, it is doable to set up the PC with 1 case fan, and a cheap case. My case is £50, half decent (Zalman Z11, with good basic features) and 1 fan (plus a good CPU cooler) cools the FX 8320 and HD 7770 perfectly.

So basically your priorities, your life.

If you can spend £loads on a PC just to play games, then go ahead.

Cheaper components are a waste of money because they cease being usable before more expensive ones.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Point out something they waste money on. And yes, everybody wastes money unnecessarily on something: clothes, partying, church donations, organic food, political contributions, cars, there's always something.

thats hes correct?

just like how fast food is, or the quad Im ordering parts are. or the sub for my car. they are all wastes, they provide no extra practical enjoyment. you could very easily get by on a 500$ pc unless your job required more.

but thats why its called disposable income? Pcs are actually relatively cheap of a hobby. some other hobbies cost WAYY more.

half sarcasm. everything above the basics can be considered waste really I got by just by when I sold my pc and used a 300$ laptop. yet i still dropped nearly a grand on a new one. its dumb and wasteful, but its my disposable income so I can what I want.

tell him its your hobby. its what you do for fun. and its much cheaper then other hobbies and to get off your case.

Like many have said its a hobby at that point and many times no matter what the hobby is you'll waste a good amount of your money on it as it interest you Personally theres many hobbies i dont understand why people pour money into them but that's their business and personal tastes. ALMOST Everyone spends money on something that seems wasteful to others

Indeed. I spend around £600-700 per year on PC and games. I can spend WAY more in the pub over the course of a year.

seriously the amount you can spend on computers is nothing compared to other hobbies, hell I brought a pair of tyres for my 4wd which cost more then my whole computer

Its all about those volumetric clouds
