Do amd boards have plastic socket covers?

Hey guys,

i just wanted to know the answer to the question in the title because a friend of mine took an AMD board back to the shop cause it was faulty and they told him that u need to have the plastic socket cover that came with the board. I don't remember any AMD board i've seen so far having a plastic socket cover though. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks :)

If you mean the bit that sits where the CPU would go to protect the pins then yeah my amd board came with one.

Nope. The AMD boards do not have pins on them so they don't cover them up. Only Intel has pins on the motherboard so they include a plastic cover.

pretty sure my GB board came with one.

I've owned a few am2+ and am3 boards. None of them came with a socket cover.

he should tell the people at the shop that they are wrong or contact the manufacturer directly.

AMD sockets don't have socket covers. They do have a plastic pad with holes in it to hold the processor pins, but they don't have a socket cover. Intel does to protect the thousand and something pins in their sockets.
