i5 4690k Motherboard support

I've been struggling to find a mother board for around $150-200 that supports this CPU without a bios update, this would be for my first build so I wouldn't be able to update the bios, and I'd go with a 4670k but no where in NZ sells them, can anyone suggest me a motherboard or tell me I'm wrong (with explanation)

CPU: i5-4690K @ 4.0GHz GPU: Gigabyte Gtx 970 WindForce MOBO: Gigabyte Z97 Gaming-3 CASE: Corsair Carbide 200R PSU: Corsair RM750

i got an Asus Z97-A, although they are about $240 atm

the Asus Z97-K is $184

Looking for a job

A board that supports the 4670k should support the 4690k as it's the same socket. The Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 is going for around $150 right now and is a solid choice for most gamers, with anything more being a bit overkill.

If you want my attention, quote my post or I will not see it. I ignore builds that do not use PCPartPicker.

Every board I find does support it, but would require a bios update to do so

If you've got an optical disk drive, then just chuck in the included driver disk that comes with any motherboard. It's relatively painless.

Or if you're feeling a little more confident, you can try to find the up-to-date firmware for your model of motherboard. It shouldn't be too hard. Install, reboot and hey presto.

Unless you specifically have a problem with updating the BIOS of the motherboard, and my question to that is: Why?

Alright, so even if the original bios didn't support it, it should come shipped with bios that can?

The z97 chipset was made at the same time as the i5-4690k. All Z97 chipset boards support the i5-4690k, even if it's the oldest original bios. Z87 chipset boards can support the 4690k if they have had a bios update since the release of the z97 chipset. Stick to Z97 and you'll be fine 100% of the time.

Weird I look on compatibility on the websites and it says that it supports it after a certain update

If you fine 4690k is says it supported after the bios update that isn't the orginal

And as new bios come out, the board coming off the line get the new bios. Even then the original bios for new chipsets usually have at least partial support for the intended cpus allowing you to flash an updated bios

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Chuck in the CPU and it should work just fine (given you have a supporting LGA1150 motherboard).
