Best 1440p IPS Monitor that won't "Break the bank"

CurlyCucumber

Hey everyone,

Recently I've been wanting to upgrade my monitor to a new IPS 1440p one.

A lot of people have suggested the Acer xb270hu, but I'm not so sure. It's somewhere around 800 dollars on newegg, and on Amazon its just the same. That's more than 3/4 of what my PC costed! I'm a high school student with just a summer job. I don't have much to blow on it, but I do want to pick out a great monitor that will last me a long time.

And before people recommend it, I don't want the ASUS PB278Q, although its at my price point, I really want an IPS panel.

What do you guys think? It needs to be accessible in the US, so it can't be available exclusively in the UK, etc.

1440p, 27", preferably 144/120hz if possible, but that isn't a must; that's what I'm looking for. And *try* and stay below ~500/600 dollars.

Thank you for any advice provided!

If your OK with buying used then you could try to find a Acer predator otherwise your not going to find a 120/144 IPS 1440p monitor within a $600 price point. Also the PB278Q is an IPS, I don't think Asus makes a 1440p than isn't IPS.

I don't believe that is IPS.

And 144hz isn't a necessity. It would just be nice. ;-P

It says PLS on the Asus site which just means it's using a Samsung panel, PLS is Samsung's version of IPS and if anything give slightly better color reproduction.

This is correct.

The PB278Q does have an IPS panel manufactured by Samsung. LG owns the IPS trademark, so Samsung IPS technology is not actually called IPS, but fundamentally it is the same tech.

Awesome! Thank you for clearing that up. I might just pick a PB278Q up. Some people say the color quality isn't as good as some monitors, but I'm sure it will be better than what I have now. Do you think so? I mean, my current monitor isn't even IPS, so it has to look better. http://www.amazon.com/Acer-G246HL-Abd-24-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B0098Y77OG#

Take a look at the AOC Q2770PQU. I had the Asus PB278Q, but the PWM dimming gave me headaches. I would say that the AOC is equivalent just without PWM.

According to TFT Central, early production AOC monitors use the same panel as the Asus.
