Amp for AKG K7XXX

mrswagbhinav

I recently bought AKG K7XXX off Massdrop and was wondering if I need an amp for them. (bought them two months ago and highly recommend, they are back on Massdrop now) I found a couple amps on Massdrop and one of them caught my eye. It was cheaper on Amazon so I'm considering that one. It's the http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/B00ADR2DTG (yes this is a repost because my other post got fucked up)

You should get a amp, you dont "need" one but I would get one. Definatly get a DAC + AMP

I reccommend this http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E10K-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LP3AMC2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432613949&sr=1-3&keywords=fiio

Its a AMP and DAC combo and will definatly increase Sound Quality

Also if you have a old HT reciever or integrated stereo amp lying around I would use that

They don't increase sound quality magically, just make it louder or removes buzzing/interference

Try it first

I tried K7xx on 3 motherboards so far (Asrock B85M GL R2.0, Asus H97-I, MSI z97 gaming 5) and all of them barely got loud enough on max volume. So perhaps, amp is indeed pretty needed for this headphone.

As per usual, Fiio E10K or schiit fulla.

I'd recommend the SMSL SD793-II over everything mentioned so far, IF optical (SPDIF) out is available.

You mean the adapter for the larger connector right? Yeah I have it and what advantages does it have over the E10K and Fulla

No, I mean S/PDIF. Check your motherboard manual or manufacturers website if you don't know what it looks like.

I would recommend an amp if an AKG will be your only headphone, but I would not recommend a tube amp, especially a cheap one.

Think I'll go for the Fulla or E10K

I'm an audiophile and you guys are all recommending garbage. Bare minimum pick up a TEAC UD301. It comes in black and silver and it'll run you about $450 US. It's a DAC+headphone amp. It's a dual analog model meaning that both for the rear outs and the headphone out it uses dual parallel analog stages. The unit actually has two headphone amps, one for the left and one for the right channel. It is an exceptional product. The fidelity is spectacular. I own one.

If you want to go to higher end headphones, the $700 TEAC UD501 takes the sound and amplification quality to a whole other level.

Definitely don't get anything crappier than the TEAC 301.

If you must cheap out, get an IFI DSD NANO. Those are $250 US. It can't touch the TEAC though.

You'll be shocked at the sound quality you can get out of proper equipment. But you have to pay the cost to be the boss.

I also suggest you pick up a 90OHM USB cable as it really does make a difference. SUPRA makes a spectacular cable. They're on Ebay.

Finally, run Fidelizer on your machine. It's a free download. It stops unnecessary services (which also helps game performance) and optimizes windows' audio output. Also, download VB Audio's ASIO bridge and install the proprietary ASIO software driver for your DAC. If it has none, use ASIO4ALL. The sound quality will melt your brain, guaranteed, or I will eat my words.

If you want to take this seriously and get some wicked sound, PM me and I'll walk you through it.

I've seen you be quite rude to people less knowledgeable than you inside of the audio section. We are all friends, just looking for help.

You really should try to be nicer. That is all.

I'd go fulls for the made in america, but that doesn't really mean much.

Go for either, probably whichever is cheaper.

If you have to deal with the echo chamber of M50x and "dac or soundcard" nicely. You are probably insane at this point

Really? Pretty sure I'm not friends with you, nor with anyone claiming that it is necessary need to spend $400 on a snake oil DAC to get quality audio. People who post bullshit are definitely not looking for help, although they probably need some. Mental help, that is.
