Upgrading my 3yr old system

Eledris

Hi folks,

I want to upgade my system, which is now about 3 years old.

Actually I am not yet decided what exactly I want to do, so I don't have a "future parts list" ready yet.

I could imagine to get into some OC and have watercooled stuff installed but an AIO CPU watercooler with Radiator and a waterblock for the GPU would be the max. I would do.

My current case is capable of a radiator on top (as far as it looks like..) and if by overclocking I can get a solid perfomance boost for the money, I sure will enjoy doing it.. (and looking forward to build it, too..)

At the moment I am thinking about the following components as a must:

- SSD

- new GPU

- new Board/CPU

I would love to have dual graphic cards setup but I think my budget won't allow it.

Please see my current specs and other information below.
Happy for any feedback on which components / setup I could dig deeper.

1. Budget & Location
800-1.100 EURO, Germany
2. Aim
Gaming current games like AC Unity, Witcher 3 etc.. on a decent quality and good performance. 1080p, no 4k stuff.
3. Monitors
1 Monitor - which needs to fit into my budget. Currently on a 17" old, old, old screen that needs a upgrade.
4. Peripherals
See monitor - everything else is fine
5. Why are you upgrading?
I am hardly able to run AC Unity on lowest details and want to get "back on track"

My current build:

Board: MSI MS-7673
Processor: Intel® Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570
Display Memory: 4048 MB
HDD: Model: WDC WD5002AALX-00J37A0 ATA Device
Case: Cooler Master CM 690 II
Power Supply : Super Flower SF-550P14XE (550W)

Thanks !!

Eledris

I wouldn't bother upgrading the motherboard and processor personally (especially as you havn't even overclocked it, get a cooler if you are running the stock one)

Grab an SSD and a gpu and be amazed at how good it still is. :)

I would suggest something like an OCZ Arc 100 480GB (they have a wicked warranty where they pay shipping and will cross-ship it, it's fast and cheap)

and a gtx 970..

Be done for another 3 years and hopefully NVM-E will be sorted for the masses.

And then if your still not happy you can upgrade the motherboard and cpu.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

Quote or @dzzope to get my attention..

2500k does not need an upgrade, that CPU packs so much power

in terms of GPU's, pick up a 970

SSD- really any 120/250 gig ssd from a reputable company will work perfectly fine, go for brands like samsung or crucial

display - look for any 23/24 inch asus (i find asus to be the best right now, others may argue) display with decent response time (5ms or less is usually the rule of thumb)

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

Logitech G502 RGB // Corsair K65 RGB (MX Red)

So. Your case doesn't support anything other then a 140mm AIO. Technically it might be possible ti mount it on the sidepannel, but that's not recommended.

I went with an i5-4690k, an MSI Krait (SLI support) a nice air cooler instead of an AIO water cooler and an GTX 970 ACX 2.0 from EVGA.

That allows you to play any game right now and should look pretty sexy aswell.

And I almost forgot the SSD. 850 Evos came down in price here pretty quickly and I just got one a month ago. Great SSD!

I would keep everything except GPU .

Would upgrade to a 970 / 980

And maybe add an SSD, you don't need to change that mobo and cpu .

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

"Like" comments to show your support of them or the idea they express.
